Pre- Street Fighter: Because Capcom didn�t make much in the ways of Bios for character�s in Street Fighter III (Hell, Ryu and Ken weren�t even supposed to be in it originally) not much is known about Alex. What is known is that Alex father was good friends with a man named Tom. In fact Tom trained Alex how to fight, him and Alex share a kind of Father-Son relationship, even though they are not related. Alex�s Father was also in the military along with Tom, which is why Alex�s style seems to be very militaristic.
Street Fighter III Double Impact: Alex enters the tournament, to get revenge on Gill, who  injured Tom. Tom tells Alex that the fight was fair and that in the end Gill had just been the better fighter. Alex didn�t care about this and still sought to get his revenge. Tom tells Alex then to go and see the world, because there wouldn�t be a point to try and stop him. In the actual tournament Alex manages to make it all the way to Gill, but is not strong enough to defeat him. Alex, distraught that he couldn�t get revenge returns home. When he arrives he�s surprised to see that Tom is fully recovered. Tom�s daughter, Patricia welcomes Alex back. Alex, happy that everything is as it should be, gets over his thoughts of revenge. Tom tells Alex that he�s become a man, and that he�s really matured. Alex then decides on a new journey, the challenge the stongest fighters in the world!

Street Fighter III Third Strike:  Alex meets Ryu, and they have a match.  Ryu wins this and encourages Alex to keep on fighting. With the weight of vengeance off of Alex�s back, he is now excited about fighting and searches the world for Ryu and other challengers.  He writes to Tom and Patricia, telling them that he is determined to have a rematch and that he can't come home, because he must find Ryu, again.

Miscellaneous Facts and Notes

Tom is a good friend of Alex's late father, and like a father to Alex. Tom is the one that trained Alex, and Alex attends his gym.  Patricia is Tom's daughter and Alex cares deeply for both as family to him (and no, Patricia is not a love interest.  She's a child, for crying out loud!).

Alex's father was in the military, which is why Alex himself is quite militaristic.  Tom is a war veteran, too.

There seems to be something special about Alex that Gill can sense in him.  See Gill's bio for more info.  I heard also that this is because Alex was also one of the candidates for rising up to become the next Messiah, but I'd be really surprised now, since there's no evidence and I imagine Alex would have remembered something as big as that.  In the American version of SF3, Urien indicated that he knew Tom but that was a mistranslation by Capcom USA.  In the Japanese version, he actually says "I have no memory of what you speak of!" when asked about it.

Alex's special intro with Hugo is a parody of Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant.  The way that Hugo (representing Andre, of course) shoves Alex away easily is exactly what Andre did to Hulk.  I highly doubt this intro means the two know each other.
