Creating textures

Creating a texture or a pattern

You can create your own texture files to use with the brush paste tool, the pattern tool, or the brush tool's custom option.

If you are going to be using the texture with the Advanced Visualizer, remember to create the texture in a square resolution.

Use 1k_square (1024 by 1024) or higher for zoom-in close-up camera shots.

A 512-by-512 square is a good size for average camera shots.

A 256-by-256 square is acceptable for average and zoom-out camera shots. It also takes up less disk space.

To create a texture or pattern file:

  1. Select the create tool to open a new canvas, using a small resolution (such as 50 by 50).

This canvas becomes the source of the texture or pattern image.

  2. Create a texture or pattern on the canvas.
  3. Apply the texture or pattern image to a different canvas by using the:

pattern tool to paste the image

brush paste tool to apply the image using the brush

brush tool's custom option to use the colors of the image to create a pattern using the brush
