Preferences > Tgl single hotkeys mode

Switching to Single Hotkeys Mode

Toggles the mode where single keys can be used to issue commands or activate tools.

Overview

To learn how to define hotkeys, see Setting Up Your Own Menus and Hot Keys on page 547.

By default, hotkeys require a modifier key such as Alt or Ctrl. By toggling into single hotkey mode, any single character can be used to issue a command or activate a tool.

In single hotkey mode, all hotkeys you've defined as single keys are available, as well as hotkeys using modifier keys.

When not in single hotkey mode, the single hotkeys you have defined are not available; only the hotkeys using modifier keys.

How to Use

1
Select Preferences > Tgl single hotkeys mode to toggle the single hotkey mode on and off.
2
To type in the information line (prompt line) while in single hot key mode, press the Tab key or click the information line with the mouse to activate it.
3
Press Tab again or press Enter to deactivate the information line.

Notes

  • The Action window has its own set of hotkeys. Therefore, the same hotkeys can be used in the Action window for different tools or commands than in the modeling windows.
  • The Action window hotkey commands are issued only when you have the mouse cursor in the Action window. The other commands are issued (or tool activated) if the mouse cursor is in one of the modeling windows.
  • For more information about the Action window, see the Animating in Alias manual.
  • While in single hotkey mode, you can still use the modifier and single key hotkeys. You cannot, however, specify both a single hotkey and a modifier hotkey for the same function.
