After the initial try-out of the kite and the rig, I went to Balboa Peninsula for some high-altitude photos. The kite flew well and I walked with it for about a mile along the beach.
Balboa Pier is visible in the distance.
Having arrived at the pier, I took some photos from above.
Another view of the pier. As a composition, this works actually better than the straight, centered shot that I originally intended.
