Holiday Season
What I really hate about the holiday season is that there's never enough time to fit things in as I'd like to. I really enjoy giving gifts, and making gifts, but it takes a ton of time to get them together and to get them to the proper people. I really enjoy holiday parties, but they tend to conflict with one another and with other events, and I can never make them all. I enjoy Erin's holiday choral concerts, but they tend to conflict with all these other things, and it's hard for friends to attend since they also have other obligations. I really like eating out around the holidays, but it sucks to try and find a reservation...especially if you've got the job of finding a restaurant for 10 people for lunch right before Christmas, a joy I recently encountered.

I'm glad that being Jewish means I don't have to find time to decorate our house, and that instead of making time to buy a tree I have to make time to buy Hanukkah candles (a far easier shopping expedition). I'm also glad that I don't have to make time for church, make time to visit with my family, or make time to "remember the holiday spirit" this time of year. The fact that I manage to show my face at most holiday events, actually get gifts together for friends, family and coworkers, and wish strangers "happy holidays" is usually enough.

I also light the Menorah candles, of course. I like to give and get gifts for Hanukkah, and I love making latkes at Hanukkah time. I mean, what's not to love about a holiday where you're supposed to eat fried food? The only better idea is a holiday when you're supposed to eat cheese and other dairy foods, and we Jewish types have that too. Yes!

Just don't ask me to make time for anything between now and Jan. 2, and nobody will get hurt. Happy holidays!
