Fey Kippur

Yesterday was Yom Kippur, on which we Jewish types atone for our sins of the past year. We got up in the morning and went to services with Capitol Kehillah, and we shared an aliyah (honor)...Erin said the blessings over the Torah portion I read. I, uh, kind of flubbed up my portion, but at least there was a very good Hagabah Gelilah there who helped me sorta get back on track. I haven't read from Torah since I was, like, 13 years old, so it was a little scary and overwhelming, and it didn't help that I hadn't prepared enough in advance. Better luck next time, eh?

I left around noon and went to work (I've been trying hard to save my leave as much as possible, so I couldn't afford a full day really). It was a nice quiet afternoon in the office. I got a press release from Rain-Bird that included a Sacajawea dollar and some wildflower seed mix.

Then, after work, I went to a Radical Faeries event in the evening. I munched on vegetarian curry, I fag-hagged with some interesting guys, I had a postmortem discussion on the Millennium March with a couple people, I compared Capitol Kehillah with Bet Mishpachah (the queer synagogue) with another Jewish person who was there. I positively adore the Radical Faeries. They're wonderful people. And Eldritch, who is one of the DC Rad Fey key organizers, is a fabulous, warm person. Seeing him *always* puts me in a good mood.

I like the idea that I can start my day with a Jewish service and end it at a pagan event. It was a rather fey Kippur in the end. :)
