Activity / Art Project:
Prep: optional-tape the watercolor paper to a sketch board or the
table to give the finished work a neat finished appearance. (takes
a extra hour or so to do)
1. Look at the book Autumn Leaves. Notice the different types of
leaves and colors.
2. Outline leaves 3-5 per 12x18 inch paper. Outline LIGHTLY. Talk
about the eins in the leaves and what they are for. Draw just a
few of these.
3. Paint with wax quickly each leaf (2nd grade - one large leaf).
Have student first outline leaf, and then if time fill in some of
the veins. Remove the wax and wax brushes before you start the next
section.
4. Talk about warm and cool colors, what they are using in the color
wheel.
5. Students can paint in with Warm colors -- the leaf. Have the
students first paint the leaf with water. Then while still wet,
drop yellow, orange and red colors. Allow to blend together.
6. When the leaf is finished, the student can begin the background
using cool colors. I suggest blue/green or blue/purple combinations.
Have the student paint the paper in with water first and then add
the colors as they go. Fill in all the background to the tape.
7. When the lesson is finished, allow to thoroughly dry. Then remove
the tape very carefully. Will leave a nice appearance. Have students
sign their work.
