The Drachenfels

The Drachenfels, once a great and prosperous country, if mountainous and hard, is now a land of devastation, ruin, and hordes of monsters.

This deadly hellhole grows worse daily as the foul forces inhabiting the region stretch their evil and twisted hands farther and farther to bring more of the surrounding lands under their sway.

Humanoid raiders are becoming more confident as their numbers increase. Even worse, their leaders are steadily more capable then their predecessors of even a mere few years ago. Something is guiding these monsters, and the rulers of not a few surrounding countries are offering great bounties to know just exactly who or what it is that leads them.

The land is scattered with ruins of legend, lost Castle Perilous, the Well of Knowledge (which is also rumored to be in Ellora), the Dolorous Pit (entrance to the Underworld), the ruined town that brought forth Silos Apocalypse, and many more.

Also, the hills and mountains of the Drachenfels are supposedly stocked with mines of incredible richness and purity.

One thing is for certain, the Drachenfels offers great opportunity, but at a great risk.

Among the notables of the Drachenfels are:

Velnias Vudolak, the Count of Velgrind,
Vladimir Brightsun, Prince of Tachin,
the Giant's Grave, where lies the last good giant Anthemius,
the Pillar of Eilseg atop Llangollen Tor, -- upon the pillar is inscribed the tale of a brave knight trapped in a labyrinth of evil after slaying an evil giant and dragon,
the Endless Spring, which heals all ills,
the Chorea Gigantus, known as the Ring of Giants, which is said to have the power to raise the dead,
somewhere within its reaches, the ruined village that brought forth Silos Apocalypse, the greatest hero of the land,
the Glorythorne, a tree which gives forth its white blossoms only in winter, and grants peace and visions to those who sleep under its boughs, and
the Mound of Frogs, the home of the three Giant Kings Camboglanna, Crannogarumm, and Cartimandus.
