This planet is a tranquil and far removed from the centers of galactic civilization. The planet to this day remains pristine and undeveloped. Its surface is dotted with spiky biba trees, sweeping olive colored steppes, and open savannas of lavender grasses. Drifting balloon like fabool are often punctured by the thorny biba trees and devoured buy patient carnivores snails. The primitive nomadic Dantari travel along the coasts of the larger land masses. Their numbers are so few that the planet is essentially uninhabited.
Nearly four millennia ago the great Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas established a training center among the peaceful ruins of Dantooine. His students included the Cathar warriors Crado and Sylvar, but his most adept pupil was the arrogant human Exar Kun. In a spirited lightsaber training duel with the young Jedi, Vodo was cruelly defeated when Kun split his wooden staff in two. After that confrontation Exar Kun abandoned his master and left Dantooine forever to fulfill his dark destiny.
Thousands of years passed, the Empire rose, and the Rebel Alliance arose also. The remote planet seemed perfect for the secret base of the Rebel Alliance. The Rebel engineers built a command center out of temporary self-erecting modules that could be moved at a moments notice.
An Imperial tracking device was fond in a shipment forcing the Rebels to evacuate the base in a single day. The Rebels left very few permanent structures behind.
When Princess Leia was captured by Darth Vader and brought aboard the Death Star and torture droids and mind probes could not force her to reveal the location of the rebel base on Yavin 4. Grand Moff Tarkin threatened to use the Death Star on the Princess's home of Alderaan.
Hoping to spare her home and keep protecting Yavin 4, she named Dantooine knowing that the base there was already safely evacuated.
The confession made no difference and Alderaan ceased to exist, reasoning that Dantooine was to remote for an effective demonstration of the station. Tarkin sent Imperial scouts to Dantooine and found it abandon. Tarkin was furious when he found this fact out. He ordered the immediate execution but failed to see the trouble that a 20 year old farm boy, a smuggler, two droids, and a two and a half meter tall Wookiee could cause.
Seven years after the Alliance's great victory at Endo, fifty colonist. from the volcanic planet Eol Sha were relocated on Dantooine at Luke Skywalker's suggestion. After generations of living on the hellish planet, the colonist found the open grasslands of Dantooine a paradise.
their newfound paradise was shattered when Admiral Daala discovered the colony on Dantooine. The renegade warrior woman decimated the settlement, landing AT-AT walkers that set the grasses ablaze with blaster fire and crushed prefabricated buildings beneath their lumbering feet. It still remains to be seen if Dantooine will ever be colonized again.
