Four Thousand years before the Battle of Yavin, Exar Kun opened his mind to the dark side of the force. after he faced a crushing death in the Sith mausoleums on the planet Korriban.
He traveled to Yavin 4, where the descendants of Naga Sadow's Massassi warriors had waited for a new dark lord to lead them. Yavin 4 became the focal point of the dark side after Kun obliterated Nadd's lingering spirit.
Kun intentions were to kill fallen Jedi Ulic-Qel-Droma whom he perceived to be a potential rival. But before Kun could kill Ulic the ghost of Dark Lord Marka Ragnos named Kun the newest Dark Lord of the Sith and made Ulic his apprentice. With the Sith tattoo on his forehead he was able to recruit or sway more Jedi Knights to his cause. Kun was so bold as to parade into the Senate floor on Coruscant and killed his old master Vodo Siosk-Baas.
Back on Yavin 4 he ordered the Massassi to build new temples dedicated to his glory. He dabbled in dark-side magic, creating two-headed monstrosities and imprisoning the Massassi children inside a mystical golden orb.
Using ancient Sith technology, Kun's agents triggered a multiple supernova in the Cron Cluster that devastated the planet Ossus. When Ulic betrayed the location of Jun's base, the Republic sent a huge fleet to destroy Kun. Knowing he would not survive a bombardment Kun left a "night beast" behind as a guardian and he drained all the life force from the remaining Massassi, thus saving his sprit inside the temple walls.
Four Thousand years later after years of isolation and being driven half mad by it he was able to take possession of Luke Skywalker's most powerful student Kyp Durron, after Luke had set up his Jedi Academy on Yavin 4. When Kun was in possession of Kyp's body he drove Luke to a near death state. He reeked havoc among the Jedi students before the students were able to unite along with the spirit of Vodod Siosk-Baas to vanquish Kun for all time.
