Bakura was a quiet unremarkable Outer Rim planet, that became famous as a pivotal battleground the first time Rebel and Imperial forces joined together to fight side by side for the very survival of the galaxy.
The lush world is a green and blue sphere whose capitol city, Salis D'aar, sits on a sparkling river delta of white Quartz. The planets economy is modest and is centered on the production of repulsorlifts and the export of namana fruit. Ever since malfunctioning machines killed many of the early settlers, droids have been banned from the planet.
Bakura was a new member of the Empire and when an invasion fleet roared into their system immediately after the Battle of Endor the Bakurans were shocked. The fleet of egg shaped warships was an advanced war fleet from the reptilian Ssi-ruuvi Imperium that was striking from their home world of Lwhekk. The Ssi-ruuvi had a "entrenchment" technology that harnessed human life energies to a battle-droid control system. An outpost such as Bakura would provide the Ssi-ruuvi thousands of lives in which to fuel their war machines. This would spell doom for the rest of the inhabited worlds in the galaxy.
The Rebels intercepted the planet's distress call and sent its greatest heroes to assist. When the Rebels arrived, Princess Leia and Imperial Governor Nereus agreed to help each other fight their common enemy. With a historic handshake the first ever truce between the Rebel Alliance and the Imperial forces took place.
A young attractive Bakuran senator named Gaeriel Captison caught Luke's eye. How ever her belief that the great power in the force was counterbalanced by the tragic weakness in the lives of others made her reluctant to be close to Luke.
Meanwhile aboard the Ssi-ruuvi flagship Shriwirr, the brainwashed human Dev Sibwarra used his own Force sensitivity to detect Luke's presence below. Dev reasoned that Luke's powerful Jedi powers might be able to entrench people from a distance. With that the Ssi-ruuvi captured Luke.
Dev changed after he witnessed Luke's heroism. When Luke made his move to escape from the Shirwirr's entrenchment chamber, Dev fought by his side. Hundreds of Ssi-ruuvi fled the ship in escape pods..
A full fledged space battle raged around the ship as Imperial and Alliance ships forced most of the alien cruisers to flee into hyperspace. at the moment of this triumph Governor Nereus turned on the Alliance ending the short lived truce.
After an exhausting battle the Alliance was able to defeat the Imperial forces while the citizens of Salis D'aar rose up in the streets below. Both enemies, the Ssi-ruuvi and the Imperials had been defeated.
Bakura became a member of the New Republic, but its people feared a return visit by the Ssi-ruuvi. Four powerful ships the Intruder, Watchkeeper, Sentinel, and Defender were built to safeguard the system. Gaeriel Captison was elected Prime minister of Bakura and married Pter Thanas, the former commander of the Imperial garrison, who had defected to the Rebel Alliance.
Fourteen years after the truce Luke returned to Bakura toask for Gaeriel's help. He needed the planet's warships for a mission to the Corellian system. Gaeriel agreed and Bakura was grateful that they could finally repay its longstanding debt to the New Republic.
