- you haven't showed up in Newsmaker for quite a while already . Why this
time as dracula?(laughs)
h: well in fact i've had this idea from before, like doing it for some
magazine cover.
-specifically for cover?
h: yeah. I'm not interested if its not the cover.
-Wow....'"' (so cocky!)
h: oh no no..don't get me wrong. I mean, like if i wanna do a dracula
theme, I want to do it for cover
(not like i'm not interested in doing any photo sessions other than for
covers) and also, its like...
the contents you only read it afterwards rite? And a lot of people selectively
read some parts of a magazine
(so you're saying that u're afraid people will miss out your sexy dracula
pics if its not on the cover?? ^^? )
anyway, i was thinking that i wanna do this dracula teeth thing with some
artist photos, like posters... but if i wanna
do it for a magazine, i was like " I'd do it for Newsmaker..."
(laughs)
- So how does it feel to have these teeth pointing out?
h: i even thought of having it done surgically, but its quite inconvenient
for daily life(laughs)
-So what do you think looking at yourself with this dracula outfit
h: I look cute! ( ...so egoistic! hahah but yes..i agree...)
-......c...cute?? (laughs) anyway in the first place, other than dracula,
what else do you have in mind?
h: Oh, its all done this time already. I want darkness, bats, cool, frankenstein,
suffer, gothic, isn't it all in a dracula? Its perfect!
- its like with all the stuff you like eh?
h: Yeah, its the greatest character! Its like same as Devilman.
- I see. (laughs) Lets say, if someone offers you to make songs for a
dracula movie soundtrack, will you do it?
h: I'd want to do it. Like this time in ROENTGEN, the track " NEW
DAYS DAWN" is like that type of song, the kind of
horror movie soundtrack song. When i first got this song that's what i
thought.
- Oh yeah oh yeah! It really fits. And since we touch the topic of the
album, i just wanna ask, when did you start thinking about a solo to begin
with?
h: From now..its like 5 years ago.
- That long ago!? wow...what kind of imagery did you have about a solo
career?
h: feeling..... the band is like.. incorporate all 4 of us rite? so i
can't really do something that's only ok with myself..coz i care about
everyone as a whole.
I like "Horror" stuff, maybe not as much now, but anyhow, at
that time its not very appropriate to do stuff like that. I wish I could
try doing something that
as long as its OK with me I can do it....
- 5 years ago, that was like when the band was the most busiest!
h: Yeap.
- and under that circumstance, and at that time you had some different
feeling from the band eh
h: yeah..
- so is it like something concrete...or like an abstract feeling?
h: its more like a feeling. i really wanna do something that's purely
out of my own thoughts. band is like...there's a chemistry,
a band magic there rite? i enjoy that very much but I'd like to do little
things by myself to express myself more. I get to do it with
the self portraits, but i also wanna try it with music.
- So its like, something that you cannot express through the band nor
self portraits ?
h: Yes. Since until today, I've been chiefly working with music, so i
simply wanna make "My own package" of music.
- So the idea of having your own "package" has grown stronger
over time?
h: It is not really growing stronger, but basically that feeling has not
changed since then. Just that, at that time for Laruku,
its just not the time for a solo work, so i thought, i'll do it someday.
- Have you told the staff about this feeling before?
h: I think so, but i can't really remember...sometime when we were making
"True", but i forgot how.
- How about with the members?
h: I can't remember either, like who started this topic..I can't even
remember. But as far as what Tetchan said, I am sure
that I'm not the first person to come up with it.
- I see... you said you'll do it "someday", and so that "someday"
finally came, which is 2001, did you feel that if you were
not able to do this solo work, won't you feel later that there was something
that should've been done?
h: ....maybe.
- Really!?
h: because, if i didn't do what i should've done now, I mean, I cannot
stay forever young right? If the time passed, even if i wanna do it later,
i cannot achieve this and it will be nothing close no matter what i do.
- Ah, that's why its necessary that you do it now eh.
h: that's why i sorta said , " if we can, plz let me do it "
- but what do you feel about laruku stopping activities yourself?
h: We could've continued of course, but i wanted to us to rest and i wanted
to do solo too, so we were like.. maybe we should rest.
- was it because that you guys were so busy that you want to rest?
h: we were really busy i guess, it just felt like a belt ( the automatic
ones? em dunno the techical term for it, like the ones in airport with
ur luggage )
with stuff coming at you continuously, and you dunno what to do.
- so this kind of "belt" like workload, you have realized it
before already?
h: that's right.
- for the benefit of the band its good to let members have some fresh
air
h: yeah.
- when you decided to do solo work, haven't you thought about taking a
break first then?
h: Oh yeah, I did wanted a break. But you know, I started to come up with
these songs that i like and once i start,
i can't stop working on it, so I end up not resting at all.
- Then you plan to rest after you finish the album ?
h: Yeap
- Wow but that is going to take a long time!
h: Yeah, i rested like..what.. 1 day in the whole solo stage.
- Heeee?
h: Well I don't really stay at the the studio all day, but I stay at home
a lot playing guitar. It may look like that I'm slacking off to others,
but actually I didn't rest at home at all!
