2.35:1 aspect ratio

2.35:1 aspect ratio screens are currently the most high end screen available.  A front projector is  the only way to achieve this.  The reason for this is that 80 percent of all movies use a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  This situation eliminates black bars from 2.35:1 DVDs. 




















How is this achieved?  Here is a 2.35:1 movie as how it is encoded on DVD:














A scaler then stretches this picture upwards to once again look squished:















The projector then OUTPUTS this stretched image. 


A lens is then place on the outside of the projector:

















And widens the image again to create this!






















Another benefit to doing this is that all the resolution of the projector is used on 2.35:1 movies, thus increasing pixel density and allowing a person to sit closer to the screen.  Viola!  Movie perfection!
