Hey Gang,

Just a few quick lines to update you on some events to look forward to over the next few weeks. The St. Johns Folk Festival was another great success at Bannerman Park! Great weather, excellent music and enthusiastic crowds marked the event. It's great to see that Newfoundland Fok Music is alive and well, as artists like Pamela Morgan, Rasa and A Crowd of Bold Sharemen took to the stage to entertain and delight the gathered crowds!

The Whole thing coincided with the Klondyke Festival Concert in Bay Roberts. a Classic Rock extraviganza that featured a who's who of Canadian Greats like Loverboy, Randy Bachman and Trooper. It was quite the show!

Silverseed have a new CD in the works. They have been doing some impromptue shows at The Fat Cat to try out some of the new material, and it sounds great! Colin Harris will be a guest on a future show of the Songwriters, so keep an ear peeled for that! It should be great!

There's lots of new music on the shelves at your local record store... Ray Lake has just released a New CD called "Put 'er Up". It's a high energy collection of original tunes with one cover thrown in for good measure. Ray has also updated his webpage so make a point to check it out! It's More than just rumor, as The Punters have released a new CD. Larry Foley is one very fine young songwriter so make sure you check it out.

In the last news update we talked about Dr. Zoo taking it on the road for a Newfoundland Tour to promote their debut CD. But now it seems that Randal and the boys have gone upalong! They are extending their Island tour to include several stops in the Maritimes, including;
Sept 4  Sydney, NS (Chandlers)
Sept 5 Port Hawkesbury, NS (Papas Pub)
Sept 6  Antigonish, NS (Chuggles)
Sept 12 Halifax, NS (Planet Pool)
Sept 13 Halifax, NS (Gingers Tavern, unplugged)
Sept 17 Sackville, NB (Mount Allison - Tantramarsh)
Sept 18 Summerside, PEI (Heritage Pub)
Sept 19, 20 Fredericton, NB (Bugaboo Creek)

If you would like to pick up a copy Dr. Zoo's debut CD or any of these CD's, (In person or online), just visit Fred's Records. They have the best selection of local music you're likely to find, along with all your favorites!

In the meantime, you can check out the best in local artists at the Newfoundland Music Industry Association Website.

In On Air news, Michael Lake of Freshwater was my guest of "The Songwriters" with the sad news that the good ship Freshwater has been scuttled. The band actually broke up within a few days of the release of their CD "Atypicalfriday". The CD is still available at www.michaellake.ca if you want to check it out! I want to wish Mike all the best in his future endevours.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy has clued up for another summer, which begs the question... what next? Matthew Beverly and I were discussing that last week, and I think we'll be going back to The Monday Night Epic, starting September 8th., 2003. I already have a couple of beauties picked out... plus a new added feature to go with it! Listen to Cosmic Debris for more details!

I also had the pleasure of attending the Canadian National Science Fiction and Comic Expo in Toronto, at which I conducted a series of interviews that will be featured as part of CHMR's "Meanwhile at the Comic Book Shop", every friday, 4 pm on 93.5 CHMR-FM. Each week, when a segment has aired, I will be posting a web page to go with that segment. Be sure to drop back each week, and check it out!
