I just got home from Toronto, where I attended two great Live Music shows, and the Toronto Comic Con. Saw lots of great stuff, so lets get on with the news;

First of all, The highlight of the trip... We went to the legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Queen Street to check out an excellent live show. The evening was nothing short of amazing! Paul Thorn Opened the show with his own brand of deep south musical philosophy that had everyone in stitches. He has a warmth, innocense and down home charm, that instantly puts you at ease, as he treats you to tales like Joanie the Jehovah's Wittness Stripper. His dry witty charm, coupled with a singer/songwriter talent that is second to none, markes him for greatness.

Then it was time for the main event. Blackie & the Rodeo Kings took to the stage for a high energy performance featuring old favorites, classic hits and new songs from their latest CD "Bark". It was one of those shows where the energy level just gets crazy. The better the band plays, the louder the croud gets... the louder the crowd gets, the better the band plays. Special Thanks to Tom, Stephen and Colin for a great time, and one heck of a fine CD; "Bark"... Check it out!

The next day, with our ears still ringing from the Horseshoe, we swung over to Dorah Keough's on Danforth Ave. for an Irish Jam with Anneliese Cameron and friends. The sound of 14 talented musicians playing traditional Irish music, on traditional instruments, defies description! You could travel to the emerald isle itself, and never find a better sound, or a more friendly atmosphere. They do it every Sunday, so if ever you're in the Toronto area on a weekend... check it out!

Anneliese Cameron's latest CD, "Daughter Of Avalon" is available, and well worth checking out!

The Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador announced their annual awards last week in Rocky Harbour, with The Fables (3 Awards) Ron Hynes (3 Awards), and Damhnait Doyle (2 Awards) checking in as the only multiple winners.
I didn't get to attend, but Tony Batten of Shamrock tells me "It was quite the time! Lot's of people, parties, and showcases. It was well worth the trip" (I'll take his word for it) As for the award winners, they include;

CHMR's Own Kevin Kelly was nominated for the Media Person of the year Award. Unfortunately, he lost out to NTV's Toni Marie Wiseman... but take heart Kevin, after all, Toni Marie is on Television, and she's cuter that you are *hehehe*

If you would like to pick up a copy of either of these CD's, (In person or online), just visit Fred's Records. They have the best selection of local music you're likely to find, along with all your favorites!

In On Air news; The "Back at the Expo" segments will be going into a new season. There are shows scheduled up to Christmas, and I was able to do a series of interviews for another season, starting in January, of 2004. just listen to "Meanwhile... Back at the Comic Book Shop" every Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM, on 93.5 CHMR FM, or online via MP3 Stream or Real Audio at www.mun.ca/chmr.

Ill health and a heavy work schedule has limited my time at CHMR of late. As a result, many of my shows have been pre-recorded of late. Unfortunately this trend is like to continue for the foreseeable future.

The next Four Songwriters shows will be prerecorded. This Sunday my Guest is Anneliese Cameron, followed by Scott Cameron Smith next week, then Suzie Vinnick, and last, but Not Least, a Full album special on the New Gordon Lightfoot tribute album. (By then it'll be Christmas, and I get a break)

Enjoy the shows... and keep an eye on this site for more news.
