It's time for this Months Update... Starting with a great show for a good cause!

A Special Benefit Concert was held on Saturday, March 6th., at The Meigle Lounge in Seal Cove. The show featured Hammingwell, with special guests Shamrock and Terry Penney.

All three recording artists are gave freely of their time and talent to help raise money for 17 Month Old Rianne Fewer, who suffers from Leukemia.

Although they were without the services of Chris Fagan (He had work commitments), Shamrock started the show off with their lively brand of traditional Irish Newfoundland Music that had toes tapping and hands clapping. Such was their impact, that they were invited back to play at the Meigle again for the St. Paddy's day weekend show.

Terry Penney took the stage next with a masterful performance that included a selection of old favorites, original compositions, and new music he wrote recently. It is the first time I have seen Terry perform live (Outside the CHMR Studio) and I must admit I was impressed! He has a natural charm, and stage presense that goes a long way towards justifying his being named MIA Male Artist of the year in 2002.

Terry told me after the show, that he is working on a new CD, and would be happy to premier it on The Songwriters... so be on the lookout for that!

Last, but certainly not least, Hammingwell! As usual, the boys put on a great show, pounding out some classic rock favorites, plus music from their Debut CD, 'Warm'. They boys also performed "Focus", a new song they are working on for their next CD. It sounded great, although Mike Fisher was quick to point out that like all Hammingwells music, it is "A work in progress".

It was an incredible live show, that helped raise over $700.00 for Rianne.

Cutting Edge Wrestling had their March Show last night, with Special Musical Guest; Corporal Punishment! They performed several songs for the crowd... and an invaluable service to the show!

The CEW's PA Music System broke down, and we had to do the show without it. However, Corporal Punishment played Music for the Wrestlers, and allowed me to use their microphone and PA to announce the matches. So after a rough start, it was a pretty good show... to check out the results, visit www.cuttingedgewrestling.com

St. Paddy's Day has come and gone for another year, and as usual, the Irish Music wast and heavy. We had a pretty Busy week," Tony Batten of Shamrock told me. "We played pretty much every night that week! George Street was hopping!" (Which is usually the case on George)

Barry Canning's 'Last Man Standing' is out and selling well. Be watching the reviews section for a review of this CD sometime soon. I am also trying to hook up with Barry to do a guest spot on the Songwriters to promot the album.

Great Big Sea have a new album out... but to be quite himest, I have been so busy with everything else, I haven't had a chance to pick up a copy. But if you are a Great Big Sea fan... it should be a treat!

The CD that Rayna Kay sent me arrived last week. She is a Roots Americana Folk Rock artist out of Nashville. 'Moondust In My Hand', is a fine collection of original music, with a country feel. You can be sure that on a future episode of the Songwriters, I will be featuring Rayna Kay.

Many of the above mentioned artists have CD's available. If you would like to pick up a copy of any of these CD's, (In person or online), just visit Fred's Records. They have the best selection of local music you're likely to find, along with all your favorites!

In on Air News;

The Paul Thorn episode of The Songwriters aired on March 7th., to rave reviews! the show featured an Interview with Paul, and music from 3 of his albums, "Ain't Love Strange", "Short Street Package Store", and "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand"... all of which are excellent! You can order any of Pauls albums through his Website www.paulthorn.com!

The following week, Hammingwell came in for The Songwriters, and bought with them a recording they did back in 1975! The boys shared some great new music as well, and told me they are working on a New CD for a Fall Release! Something for Hammingwell Fans to look Forward to!

On last weeks Blind Lemon Blues, I was joined by Nancy Earle, who proved to be an excellent Co-host! I was also talking with Matthew, who tells me that Thunder Bay is not all as bad as we make it out to be... but he still can't wait to get home. (Which should be early in May)

Easter Sunday is only a couple of weeks away. Be tuned in to the Sunday Morning Hangover this Easter Sunday for a Special presentation of Jesus Christ Superstar, featuring an interview with Carl Anderson, who played Judas in the Norman Jewison movie.

Well... Thats it for now! Next update won't be until Late April... so maybe I better wish you a Happy Easter now! :)
