"Time is Material.." INTRODUCTION Peter Myers first learned the game in 1984, while still at Our Lady of the Angels Prep School. When he attended Campion College High School he then went on to represent his school in the Workers Bank tournament, where he helped his team mate NM Jomo Pitterson to lead their school to three straight Titles in 1989, 1990 and 1991. His first Individual Tournament was the Junior Chess Ladder of 1987, and he became a Candidate Master in 1990. Peter Myers has contributed significantly to chess, in terms of Administration and currently serves the Jamaica Chess Federation on the JCF Council, in the capacity of Vice President of Middlesex. Under his stewardship, Middlesex has has seen a revival of Chess in that Region, thru the establishment of Chess clubs in a number of High Schools, such as Clarendon College and Glenmuir High, and the implementation of the Middlesex Chess Network, which incorporates a series of chess Training, work shops, and periodical Tournaments in MIddlesex. PLAYING STYLE CAREER HIGHLIGHTS he has come very close to obtaining the Title of National Chess Master of Jamaica, which still eludes him. Some highlights of his career are as follows; 2002 New Years Open; 1st place RECENT TOURNAMENT RESULTS Peter Myers recently turned in a credible performance in the 2002 National Champs by placing in the Top Six. He is currently gearing up for the upcoming New years Open which is scheduled for January or early February. CONCLUSION Peter Myers is a resilient and Talented Chess player, who still has chances of becoming a National Master. If he can balance his administrative duties on the JCF Council with his career as a chess Player, then 2003 might be the year for Peter Myers. END |
