"Time is Material.."
---- Jamaican National Chess Coach

INTRODUCTION

Peter Myers first learned the game in 1984, while still at Our Lady of the Angels Prep School. When he attended Campion College High School he then went on to represent his school in the Workers Bank tournament, where he helped his team mate NM Jomo Pitterson to lead their school to three straight Titles in 1989, 1990 and 1991. His first Individual Tournament was the Junior Chess Ladder of 1987, and he became a Candidate Master in 1990.

Peter Myers has contributed significantly to chess, in terms of Administration and currently serves the Jamaica Chess Federation on the JCF Council, in the capacity of Vice President of Middlesex. Under his stewardship, Middlesex has has seen a revival of Chess in that Region, thru the establishment of Chess clubs in a number of High Schools, such as Clarendon College and Glenmuir High, and the implementation of the Middlesex Chess Network, which incorporates a series of chess Training, work shops, and periodical Tournaments in MIddlesex.

PLAYING STYLE

Peter Myers is a straightforword Tactical Player who loves Concrete positions. He relishes constructing Tactical Traps for his Opponent but he is most comfortable in straightforward Concrete positions, where the fight can be decided not by intuition or experience, but by calculating to the very end.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Peter Myers won his last Open Tournament when he came first in The New Years Open of 2002. He came close to winning the National Championships of 1997, when he turned in a remarkable performance to tie for Second Place. He has also represented Jamaica proudly in the Caribbean Youth Tournament of 1991.

he has come very close to obtaining the Title of National Chess Master of Jamaica, which still eludes him. Some highlights of his career are as follows;

2002 New Years Open; 1st place
1997 Xmas Open; 1st place
1997 National Championships; 2nd place
1991 North West St. Catherine Junior Open; 1st Place
1989-1991 Workers Bank Tournament; Placed 1st three years in a row.
1988 Jamaica Open Amatuer Section; 2nd Place

RECENT TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Peter Myers recently turned in a credible performance in the 2002 National Champs by placing in the Top Six. He is currently gearing up for the upcoming New years Open which is scheduled for January or early February.

CONCLUSION

Peter Myers is a resilient and Talented Chess player, who still has chances of becoming a National Master. If he can balance his administrative duties on the JCF Council with his career as a chess Player, then 2003 might be the year for Peter Myers.
