CM, Equitable Brown Profile last updated, May 23, 2002
"Victory for the third time, so they say, pays for all.."
INTRODUCTION
This mild mannered Camperdown High School old boy learnt chess in April 1995, and in the following
year lead his High school chess team to victory in the National High School Chess Champs
of 1996. His school kept the title for two more years as Equitable Brown again
Captained his school in back to back victories in 1996 and 1997.
PLAYING STYLE Equitable Brown, like his mentor FM Warren Elliott is a very well rounded player and excels in all phases of the game. He starts the opening in a slow positional style, builds up pressure in the middlegame, and then when the moment is right, he finshes off his opponents explosively and aggressively. His strongest quality is perhaps his flexibility in switching his play from a slow strategic buildup to aggressive dynamic play.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
This three time National Junior has scored some impressive victories over a few of Jamaica's
National Masters, and has good prospects of becoming jamaica's next National Master.
His most memorable moment was his performance in the 2000 CAC Junior Tournament,
which was held in Venezuela.
He also represented Jamaica in the 2000 Barbados Junior Open where he tied for third place.
2002 New Years Open; Joint 2nd and beat NM Matthews in 2nd rnd.
RECENT TOURNAMENT RESULTS Equitable Brown has recently scored an impressive victory against NM Shane Matthews in the 2002 New Years Open where he finished Joint Second. He now looks forward to playing in the 2002 National Champs where he intends to put up a good showing against some of Jamaica's strongest players.
CONCLUSION If Equitable continues to improve, he will no doubt obtain his National Master Title in 2002. He has lived up to expectations since being identified as a teenage chess prodigy in 1996. 2000 was definitely Equitable's year, when he won his first Open, represented his country for the first time, and won National Junior Champs again. This former teenage chess sensation does great things in three's. Three time National High School Champion, and three time National Junior Champion. The future for chess looks bright indeed for Equitable Brown, as this young talented player continues to shine. END |
