INTRODUCTION

Born in March, 1983 in Jamaica, Daren Wisdom is widely regarded as one of Jamaica's most exciting Junior players. Wisdom has progressed solidly over the years and crowned his rapid improvement by winning the 2002 Jamaica Junior Champion title ahead of a very talented field including pre-tournament favourites Alain Morais and Ras Malaku Lorne.

In 2003 he won the Gleaner Open Junior chess title and qualified for the round of 16 of the prestigious Masters Knock-out competition where he lost to FM Warren Elliott after some close encounters. At 30th June, 2003 he attained a career-high local rating of 1828 and also achieved the distinction of being invited to participate in the 2003 national chess championships, his first. Also very adept at blitz chess, Wisdom is definitely one of Jamaica's future chess stars.

PLAYING STYLE

Daren is without a doubt, a highly tactical and aggressive chess player.

He is well known for his keen tactical eye, attacking flair and love for combinations. He also has the remarkable knack of saving even totally lost positions, by complicating the position with tactics and aggressive Counterplay.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

The Highlight of his career occured when he won Jamaica junior title in 2002, ahead of Tournament favourites, Malaku Lorne and Alain Morais.

RECENT TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Recently, Daren has done Jamaica proud by achieving 2nd place in the 2003 Barbados Open Junior Chess Champs. He has also been invited to play in the 2003 Jamaica National Chess Champs, which begins in August, 2003.

CONCLUSION

Daren Wisdom is one of the future stars of jamaican chess. If he can combine Positional chess understanding with his natural flair for tactics, he has the potential to achieve even greater things in his chess career.
