[ SHEAR LASHING ]

it is ofthen used to bind adjacent poles together. it is also a good way to reinforce a broken or weak pole. the frapping turns used to tighten the lashing may be omitted and replaced with wedges inserted between the poles.
a loose shear lashing made around the end of two or more poles will allow the poles to be opened out and used as an A-frame of a tripod.
1. tie a clove hitch around one of the outside poles. if you are only using 2 poles, tie the clove hitch around both of them and pull tightly.
2. pass the rope around for about 4 to 6 turns.
3. tighten the lashing with a frapping turn by taking the rope down between two poles at one end of the turn. repeat for 2 to 3 times and pull tightly each time.
4. end with another clove hitch on another pole and not on the one which you started with.
