My name is Rebel - a fitting name for my personality. I am a Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin). I will be 16 years old in April of 2004. (The picture above was taken of me when I was very young). I was given to my mom by her daughter, Dawn, when I was 7 months old. Mom always wanted a small, short-haired dog, and when Dawn went searching for the perfect dog, she found me. I'm a lucky guy and I've had a wonderful life. As I said, I am almost 16 years old now and my health is deteriorating - I've had heart problems for a couple of years now, and the darn arthritis has set in. Mom has me on several medications which make me feel better. I have developed cataracts over the past few months, but what can you expect from a guy my age :-) I spend most of my days resting now but do manage to muster up the old energy I used to have, especially around dinner time! My legs still have a bounce to them now and then and I bounce right into the kitchen when Mom calls me for dinner.

The picture on the left is Dawn holding me - I was 10 months old. Over the years, mom has taught me to sit, shake hands, lie down, roll over, play dead, and speak. And of course, the good old obedience training! Like I said, I have been pretty feisty in my life, but my mom wouldn't have it any other way. You see, Min Pins are big dogs in small bodies! There is nothing we don't think we can do - even stand up to a Rotweiller! Yep...I did that one day, too - sorry to say, I learned my lesson not to fool with the bigger guys!

I used to be the only child, but now I have a brother and two sisters. My other sister, Missy, died in May of 2003 and I've never seen my mom so sad. I loved Missy - we were such good buddies. Missy was a couple of years younger than me and she, too, had heart problems. I miss her so much. Holly, my other sister, is a Cairn Terrier and Rusty, my brother, is a Cocker Spaniel. Angel is my newest sister, she's a Yorkie-Maltese mix and a holy terror! She jumps up on me all the time because she wants to play, but she doesn't realize I am old and I just can't play like I used to. So mom puts me on the sofa so I can be safe from the wild puppy! Other members of my family are Sunday, my cat brother, Autumn, my African Gray Parrot sister, and Kelsey, my Senegal Parrot brother.

Mom and I have had a good time together - I hope I can give her a few more years with me. I know it makes her sad to see me getting old, but she is so gentle with me - she calls me her little geriatric dog :-) I know when my time comes, I will be reunited with Dawn again and she will take care of me until my mom can be with me again. But don't give up on me yet!!!! I can still hold my own - no one gets near my mom without my approval!!!

I hope you've enjoyed reading about my world and meeting my sisters and brother. Please, if you have time, read about Missy's World and her memorials.

Rebel
April 5, 1988 - February 6, 2004

Sadly, on February 6, 2004, Rebel lost his battle with heart disease. I will miss him more than words can say. My daughter, Dawn, gave him to me when he was only 7 months old and Rebel has been my constant companion for 15 years. Rebel is safe in Dawn's arms now, but his memory will live in my heart forever. I love you, little guy. ~Mom
