Drawing

drawing

Here is a still-life drawing from my sketchbook, the composition of the still-life was set up for an oil painting. These are more than just objects I have around the house, my mother-in-law gave me the serving set, and my mother gave me a crocheted doily that she made herself. I love to draw and paint silverware, I love their reflective properties, and I love the thought that a skilled silversmith crafted such amazing pieces. My mother was very skillful with her hands when it came to making intricate doilies. She made long beautiful panels to cute cup holders. Even though she tried to teach me, I failed to learn her craft.

tree-bark

This is a charcoal drawing of the bark on a tree located on the Eastfield Community College Campus. The method for obtaining the image was with a kneading eraser and charcoal. This picture is one of my favorite drawings. I took this class in 2008, it was my first art class and immediately I knew that I was an art major.

Painting

Amethyst Bay boxes

Here is another set of still-life compositions from my Painting I class at Eastfield. The still-life shapes were setup to practice 3D gradients, lighting and shadows, and depth. The still-life boxes were also set-up to practice color blending, composition, and 3D.

Both paintings were from the same class, I learned a lot about color from my painting instructor, she really removed from me the barriers I held from a fear of using color. Before we began to paint, she had this wonderful presentation on color theory and how great painters used these colors.

Metalsmithing

paw-print necklace

I was enrolled in a metalsmithing class for 3 semesters at Eastfield College, originally it was mistake. I thought I enrolled into an art metals class that did large scale metal sculptures, rather it was a small metals class and the primary focus of the class was jewelry making. It turned out to be one of my favorite classes to take in college, and I still have a space in my home dedicated to jewelry making. It's funny how the whole time I was taking the class, I fought really hard to not make jewelry. I made cute push pins, a rain catcher, Christmas ornament, and a ring for my husband and myself. I guess for a long time I had a hatred for jewelry because I always associated jewelry being for rich people. I certainly didn't come from a rich family nor were there family heirlooms lying around to inherit.

This piece is from my paw-print series. I have yet to release this to the public. One of these days, it'll be on Etsy, but for now it's here. This is a coyote paw print, I had in mind that a Boy Scout would want to wear it. To help improve tracking skills. I can honestly say, that making these pendants has actually helped me to identify a raccoon's paw print at a nearby lake.
