Photomerge using Adobe Photoshop

longhorn and bluebonnets backyard iris

The photomerge projects were inspired by Erik Johannson's amazing work in post-production. I was taking an Innovations in Digital Photography class when I was introduced to his work. I was absolutely mesmerized by the amount of detail in each photo, the production time that he invested to make one final image, his method for gathering photos, and his amazing ability for creativity. Visit his page at Erik Johansson to really appreciate his work.

As for me and my work, the Longhorn and Bluebonnets image represents my two favorites. This photo combines a photo I took of a longhorn who is just down the street in a pasture that is fenced by an alley from a housing development. It saddens me to see him there knowing that one day a gas station may one day take his home and that of other animals. I used Photoshop to place his image amongst a field of bluebonnets which grow in the neighboring city, Plano. Juxaposed with the field of bluebonnets is a construction crane that symbolizes the future development of an expanding city.

light expansion
This lovely image was purely accidental. I was exploring the concept of time and movement using a long exposure. The result really excited me from the start, I love the depth of color that separates from the background. This is an unaltered photo.
Campfire and Marshmallows
This photo was inspired by the light graffiti work done by Trevor Williams. For my own exploration I employed my own family to get in on the action. This was a special project for me.
whirlpool
The same night that I was taking the Campfire and Marshmallows picture, our cat also wanted in on the fun and he moseyed over in front of the camera. Apparently, he grounded himself to avoid being sucked in by the illuminous whirlpool.
date night shenanigans
Here is a photo of two artists, taken in downtown Dallas. It's their date night, the sun will be setting soon, and the children are watching a show at the Majestic. The brick background really complemented the clothing and added a nice texture to the composition.
across the Harbor
Across the Harbor was taken just after sunrise in Rockwall. The camera is pointed towards the I-30 bridge as commuters’ head towards Dallas. This photo is being used as the background image of a local realtor on their Facebook page.
texture change
This image had some minor color adjustments in Photoshop. This was a restoration project for my photography class. I pulled from the roadside trash an antique serving cart. It was in rough condition, before I could paint it, I worked at removing the old paint. I love the dueling textures and the timing of the falling leaf created more interest in the composition.
