A short description of what I've been upto most of my life and since I'm a part of the MBA clan, you will also find a section called Key takeaways at the end of each para! Am I a manager or what!
Let me start from scratch. I'm originally from Delhi. I attended two school there, namely Mother's International and Tagore International, went on to do my graduate degree in Business Studies from College of Business Studies. (Key Takeaways:#1Delhi is hot, it gets cold too, dress appropriately #2 Getting into a good college is not easy, be thankful if you went to one #3 You need a bike and serious patience to seriously enjoy this city)
After those awesome three years, I worked as a Information Analyst (sounds important doesn't it, at McKinsey & Co.'s research subsidiary in Gurgaon. (Key Takeaway: #1 This brand name rocks, this can help u get over uncooperative embassy people, talk to HR folk with some dignity and enjoy the resources that only a fellow McK alumnus can appreciate.)
A year later, I managed to get myself into MDI, Gurgaon to pursue my MBA. These were the first two years I ever spent in a hostel, perhaps the best two years of my life. A good part of a hostel is that there are so many different people, so many things going on, so many stories, so many memories that you cant possibly sum it all up. I learnt a lot of cool stuff too! (Key Takeaways: #1Live in a hostel at least once in your life, #2MDI rocks, check out my bank account not, to mention the nice ROI figure I got at the end of the two years. Take that Warren Buffett!)
I travelled to the US for my mandatory summer training to Cleveland, Ohio to a Healthcare Facility. Awesome place, got to travel to nearby parts. Also managed to steal a trip down to Canada, got to see the grandeur of Niagara Falls from the cold and wet comfort of the 'Maid of the Mist' and the wonderful city of Toronto, saw the Indian settlement at there at Gerrard Street (it really looks like India), the gorgeous harbor and the CN Tower. (Key Takeaways: #1 Visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame , I did! #2 Cleveland is cold by Indian standards in summers, pack warm #3 For no reason talk about 9/11 or any other thing related to the current problems of America, this may cause inconvenience due to prejudices or misinformation #4 Canada is cold all year round, pack warm'er'. #5 Walking besides Niagara will get you wet from the mist, pneumonia is a distinct possibility #6 Butter chicken is available by the kilo at most Gerrard Street food joints)
Currently i'm a marketing manager at Madura Garments, the company that markets such brands as Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Louis Philippe, San Frisco and the ever popular Peter England. I'm working out of the Bangalore head office. The company is owned by the Indian Rayon arm of the Aditya Birla Group. (Key Takeaway: #1 This company rocks, if you like clothes, plus I get to work in one of the nicest retail/lifestyle organizations)
More stuff on these lines will be added as I do more noteworthy stuff!
Other Stuff:
Quite a marketing buff, love the challenge that it provides, getting 105 Crore people to understand your value proposition, now thats a challenge!
My musical tastes are slightly varied,I prefer to listen to either Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal or Western Classical. Im also a bit of an investing buff and who better to idolize than Warren Buffett! I actively collect and devour material on value investing. Drop me a line if you want any gyan on this subject, there is nothing I like better than newbies at investing. Entertainment and Education, thats my USP.
I love Calvin & Hobbes (my favourite cartoon strip incidentally) and also loveauthors such as Tolkien, Orwell and D.H. Lawrence(his essays!). Frankly I read all sorts of 'intellectual books', you can check out the a part of my bookshelf on the books page. I've posted some of my favorites there.
Besides that I love good Scotch, motorcycles and suffer from a severe case of wanderlust. So far I've managed to visit the US, Canada, UAE and spent two days at the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. Three 'cheers' for duty free!Kumar (the one in the middle flanked by Shenoy & Nikhil in Rishikesh!)
