February in Review
Wow this month went fast! It seems life is speeding up more and more every day. I started the
month still enjoying New Years holidays. I had a pretty good birthday, a nice lazy Saturday. Bought
myself some new dancing shoes, and took them for a spin with some of the other teachers. It was
a good night! We went back to school on the 9th and it's been non-stop action there ever since.
Yearbook is in high gear now. We're down to our last two months to get the 170 pages done, and
so far we've completed 0. Ugh. I'm optimistic though. The challenge has been that we don't have
a yearbook editor from among the students and we also have very little interest from all of the high
school kids to be involved in making the book. This has left me with a staff comprised mostly of
grades 7 & 8 students, who have no experience and short attention spans. Needless to say, it's
hard to get a lot done with them. One of the other teachers has joined my ranks now, so together
we're working out a system so we can pump out the pages FAST! Fingers crossed it works! : )
I've also started writing a textbook / workbook for one of my classes. This year I teach the
computer class for our Transition Program, which is a small class of students getting intensive
English instruction before they rejoin the regular classes. But I teach these kids at the same time
as I teach grades 4, 5 & 6 computers. It's been too frusterating up until now, trying to teach
both groups simultaniously so I've decided to create an independent study course which I will use with
the Transition class as well as any other students who join my classes mid-way through the year and
can't pick up what we're doing. Anyways, once it's done, it'll be a HUGE help and make my life a LOT
easier, the thing is getting the book done. I've spent a good number of weekends and weeknights at school
working, and I've made a good start...but there's a LONG way to go yet.
My life is work these days, but I love it and it's good and it's why I'm here. We've got more holidays
coming up and I think the next 4 months will go so fast, I'll blink and I'll be back in Winnipeg!
