September 14

The weather's finally cleared up and it's hot and sunny again! Yeah! This weekend is a new holiday, so we have Monday off school which is awesome! We are all stranded in Guangzhou though as our passports have been sent off to get our foreign expert visas. The suckiest part is we won't even have them back by the October holiday week, which is incredibly unfortunate. I had planned to head up to Beijing and watch the finals of the Beijing Tennis Open that week and then hit up a beach in the the Philippines, but tis not to be. : ( I have no clue what we are going to do for a whole week to entertain ourselves, but I think it will involve a lot of shopping and some movie night marathons.

I got my piano this week and it looks SO good! I was surprised how easily it fit in the apartment, I didn't even have to rearrange the furniture, I just shifted a few things over a little and it perfect. A total, "it was meant to be" moment.

I went to the symphony on Friday and wow was that a different experience! As a frequenter of the GSO (Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra) I've seen a lot of things and I know the concert hall quite well. For big shows, they have two extra sections they open up which are actually on the stage right behind the percussion section. So Friday, that's where I was sitting, second row behind the crash cymbal! Having seen a few concerts where they used those sections though, I was aware of exactly how on display the people in those sections are though. So the whole night I was constantly self-conscience as I was the only foreigner, I was wearing red, and as I mentioned before, I was in the second row! Lest you think I chose that situation when I bought my ticket, I'll have you know I did not. I have a friend in the orchestra who buys my tickets for me so I never know where I'm sitting, he always just get me the best seat that's available. In this case, it was the season opening gala concert and I only found out and decided to go on Tuesday so there weren't any other seats for him to choose from. But it's okay, I've really embraced the fact that I am here to entertain chinese people. : P
