Episode 1. Shiny shoes

It was the first morning in Istanbul, starting with fine blue sky. Jelle and I just came out from the Hotel, Ersu (the reception guy was damn CUTE!!! It was great joy to greet him each morning) and a man on the street asked me if I have a fire lighter. So I handed it to him. The other guy next to him asked me if I have one cigarette for him, so I gave one to him. Then they wanted to clean our shoes as a fair trade. Look at our shiny shoes!

But yes, there is a behind story following, such as; finally we had to pay 10,000,000 Turkish lira.

Hey, watch out! Dont be ripped off for your good intention!

<Walk and walk and talk and talk>

Just walking and walking, talking and talking following the sideway of the Bosphorus harbor would not upset me for all three days. However Jelle wanted to see something!

Me? Of course COS also had some priorities in her mind. ONLY following three!

  • See belly dancing show
  • Buy the little prince in Turkish
  • See the beautiful sunset

Episode 2. Interview

Three girls approached us and asked us whether we are speaking English. Then one of the girls among three, they seemed sisters, asked Jelle to do her a favor. It was a self-made questionnaire including 20-30 questions for her school project. I was surprised at her fine English. After that, we met 4 more boys and girls who were doing same things. I also agreed to participate in one of those kids projects.

<Rich American and

                   Rich Japanese>

While Jelle and I were walking down the street, doing window shopping, arguing, hundreds people approached us and tried to start conversation for selling what they have or maybe they were just very curious. Why I needed nice, fancy rug or carpet! We are poor students (sorry -.-;) who only have the right amount of money for three-day trip. But we made the conclusion by putting this way. -> For their eyes, Jelle must be rich American and I am even richer Japanese who are taking holiday trip together! (+I mentioned earlier that he is 193cm and I am only 163cm but damn pretty Korean. ^^)

<Money>

One, two, three ok 6 zeros then its one million! How much? Its about 70 Euro Cents! For all three days, I never got familiar counting so many zeros. And the last day, on the way we were coming back to the Netherlands, Jelle taught me how to use brain, using colors!

<Kimchi!!!>

Hahaha! I remember the exact feeling and our expression when we just found this Korean restaurant in front of us. It was not only restaurant but a combination of three parts, Youth Hostel, travel agency, and a restaurant. Both I and Jelle havent eaten any Korean restaurant food for ages since we left Korea (Jelle did his exchange in Yonsei), so we jumped into the restaurant.

I really wanted to eat Dolssot Bibimbab, however, I took the Jjam-bbong as a fine substitute which was only 4 dollars instead of 12! They served us Kimchi and the best Kkak-du-gi ever!

After eating, we even created friendship by exchanging our cigarettes and expanded our human network with a Korean guy, Jeung Hoon Ko and Masanori Uchihi, Japanese, who were staying in the youth hostel.
