Please read notes before accessing Prototype community.

Notes: There are several bugs found at the moment. However, majority of the features are fully working.

Basic infomation
Since the community is hosted on one of the member's computer at home. The server is quite old but still function.
Server info: Intel pentium2 400Mhz with 640MB of RAM. 80GB Harddisk. Internet Connection Speed: 512/128 so basically user will get the maximum speed around 12Kbps. At the development time, some configuration need to be modified, so user may not be able to access during that time. I have tried to access the community from UTS network, it worked fine, but quite slow though. So please be patient and please check server status above before accessing the prototype community.

Access Instructions

1. You have to register before login
2. To test all features as Publisher, I created one for you already.

Main features

1. User registration -> via central registration system
There are 4 categories of membership--Admin, Registered, Author, Publisher--each of these has different privilleges.

Registered member: When users registered to the community, they will be put as normal registered member. They can access most features but not for authoring documents (news, articles).

Author member: same as registered member plus the right to author documents (news, articles) but can not publish. Any documents created by Author member will need to be granted for publication by Publisher or Admin level.

Publisher member: same as author member plus the right to publish any documents.

Admin: full control to community


2. Single sign on system -> Once members signed on the system, they can access to all permited sections and services based on their level.

3. User profile -> Every member will be asked to put information as profile at registration time, the level of access in (1) can be changed to provide more rights by Admin.

4. News Section -> Any important news in the community are posted here. Please refer to (1) for the right to post documents.

5. Articles Section -> Any artcles in the community are posted here. Please refer to (1) for the right to post documents.

6. Photo Galleries -> The place to share pictures to everyone. Level of access can be specifed by the owner of the gallery i.e. public or accessed only by member, or specify member acccount that are permitted to view.

7. Forum -> The place where member and non-member (Guest) can paticipate for discussions.

8. Live Chat -> Synchronous CMC tools for member only communication.

9. Event Calendar -> used to note down important events to community. Latest Events are shown for convenient

10. Classified -> this feature is done through the use of forum. I opened one forum as "Commerce"

11. Search Engine -> members can search documents in community by this feature.

12. Statistic -> show current status of the community i.e. number of total member, number of posted documents so far, etc.

13. Who's online -> shows current online users both registered and unregistered users.

14. Latest Topics/ Popular Topics -> shows latelest and most popular topics that have been viewed by users.

15. Password recovery system -> memers can retrieve their lost password.

16. Polls -> increase community activities.

17. Random galleries -> random picture will be shown at the bottom right of the screen. The pictures are selected from picture galleries.

Technologies and Tools

1. CMS tools. The prototype community made use of Content management tool which allows administrator to manage and control the website features, layout, and transaction. We decided to use MAMBO (http://www.mamboserver.com/) which is one of the most powerful open-source tools available today.

2. PHPbb2 is used as Forum on the community.

3. Event Calendar v1.2 is used to provide calendar feature on the community.

4. Skychat 1.3 is used as shouted-box.

5. Gallery Zoon 2.5 beta 2 is used as Photo Galleries.

6. Chat X7 v2.0 Beta2 is used as Live Chat server on the community.
