Time Travel
It's amazing how quickly time can go by. I haven't been able to update this site for quite some time now, but I can't explain where my time has gone. Perhaps, I've time traveled. However, according to standard theories, if I were to travel from a past time to the present (or future, that is), time would have passed normally for me. My normal reference of time would seem exceedingly fast for another, outside observer, though. And I still should have accomplished more in that amount of time. Hmm.
Well, maybe I've just been too busy to do this. I have, in the past few months, replaced the timing chain, gears, and chain tensioner on my truck (it still doesn't run, though), made a web site for a local church, serve jury duty, start a summer semester of school, get braces started on my son's mouth, work, and who knows what else. Why on earth do we do this to ourselves?!
I needed to relax a few nights back and I pulled out my video tape of our trip to the Mad River & NKP Museum in Bellevue, OH. This trip was taken in 1998 at the end of a wonderful, stress-free lay-off from Dana Corporation. The trip was great and the people there were wonderful as well. I don't remember the gentleman's name, but he allowed me a chance to enter the fabulously restored NKP caboose 1047. Well, viewing the tape of that day was a welcome bit of relaxation. Until my time becomes less occuppied, I'll just think back to that great day.

Guess What Time It Is!
It's almost here again! The Annual Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society OPEN HOUSE! August 16, 17, 18. Be there, or be square!
For those who haven't visited the FWRHS since last year, hold on to your socks; they're 'bout to be knocked off. No more is it, "looks the same as last year...and the year before." Oh, no. A LOT has been going on!
Consider the tear down of the 765. Not just a little sheeting here or there, but the whole darned thing! ALL the wheels have been removed. The cab is removed. The flues, too. The tender was seperated and a whole lot more as well.
The wooden NKP caboose has a lot more new siding on it, too. If you helped "Buy a Board", maybe you can try to figure out which one is yours. Oh, and day dream about that first Open House that she's giving rides.
To tell the truth, it has been a while since I've been out to the shop, too. I think it was March or April. But so much has been going on that I can't even remember what all has changed since last year. So make it a point to get on out there THIS YEAR and see what they've been up to. I know I'll be there!
FWRHS OPEN HOUSE -- August 16, 17, 18, 2002
...and don't forget, there are a lot of other things to do there, too! Be sure to check out the other area attractions.
Even More Ways To Help NKP Caboose 141
Besides purchasing a board to help reside Nickel Plate Road (former LE&W) caboose 141, there are now new ways in which to contribute to the restoration. The restoration will require a lot more than just new siding before it is finished. And now, you can participate through donations towards the purchase of:
Windows: $50 - $75
Paint: $20
Boards: $5
Sand: $4 (for sandblasting)
Hardware: $2 - $8
So, do what you can to bring this one-of-a-kind relic back to glory. She's really starting to look good already.
