Greater Nickel Plate System -- Kalmbach Publishing, The Nickel Plate Story -- John Rehor; p.175
The Greater Nickel Plate
System

What if the Greater Nickel Plate System had succeeded? What would the face of railroading look like today? Would we still see the Nickel Plate Road and High Speed Service emblazoned on engines and equipment? Furthermore, would other classic railroad names still exist? Names such as New York Central, Pennsylvania, and Baltimore and Ohio.

Certainly, many later financial meltdowns and mergers may never have happened.

NEWS FLASH

The FWRHS is scheduled to have the 'Big Lift' occur the last week of February or the 1st week of March. 765 to be high in the air. 765 now cabless, too! See NEWS WIRE for more.

**NEW** NKP Berkshire / 765 Data Sheet!

The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society launches UPDATED website, www.765.org.

The new FWRHS website is now online! This new site seeks to offer more information as it relates to todays operations and forecasts. The site includes equipment information, special programs, general information, and, most excitingly, news and progress of the Nickel Plate Road Berkshire #765s overhaul progress!

Yes, it is true! Work has finally begun on the restoration and return to rails of NKP 765. 765 hasn't been fired since 1993 but the Society has been actively seeking its return. Now, they are well underway. As has been reported earlier, the backhead has been stripped of appliances and piping. But now, jacketing, insulation, air tanks, superheaters, and flues have been removed. Of course, the Society plans a major overhaul of the entire running gear so it's not quite time to celebrate the end of this long road. Indeed, this phase has just begun. Can you help? Visit the FWRHS website for details! DETAILS and PROGRESS

Other news at FWRHS is the announcement of TrainTown. In celebration of the Societys 30th Anniversary, FWRHS has renewed its commitment to provide the area with a real railroad museum. That's TrainTown! After speaking with a few members last fall, I can report that the proposed museum will offer a good look at railroadings great past. Should all the plans come to fruition, TrainTown promises to be a top notch attraction. Features will provide entertaining, educational information or access to older railroading features that made up the landscape of old railroading. Good luck to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society on this wonderful endevour.
