Liar liar pants on fire!

LIARS:
It seems to me that a large majority of people feel the need to lie. It seems so obvious to me that trust comes from telling the truth.

People who want to change their habits should look around them at the friends they have, and decide which of those friends are being honest with them. Then choose those friends as a starting point to practice "admitting" things to. Let them know you want to be a more honest person, and that you want to admit something to them. It doesn't have to be your biggest secret. Start small... even if it seems insignificant, it is still very important. It takes time to develop new habits. It may even be difficult at first to recognise who among your friends is truthful, and who isn't. Start by really listening to them, and looking for examples of them lying to others. They may tell you they lied to their boss, to their boyfriend, to their doctor' 'to their landlord or social security office'... If they are lying to others, they are probably lying to you too. It's probably not a very good idea to confront them about lying to you. I did that recently, and it was very troublesome. People get very vindictive when accused of something they are doing, so use caution when attempting to help someone change their habits. Focus on your own.

Friends shouldn't feel the need to lie to one another, but it becomes so easy to justify a lie. Then it becomes habit. Find reasons to tell the truth, and practice it!

We seem to grow and evolve in groups, in my observations. The people you spend your time with have a direct effect on you, as you do on them. If you want to change something about yourself (in this case, lying), observe that in the people you surround yourself with, and try to spend less time with those who continually lie, and more time with those who seem to be very honest. After spending more time with honest people, and with the intention to become more like them, you will find your dishonest friends less appealing, and will be well on your way towards being a person who can set examples for others.

Always have high standards for yourself! Don't hang out with losers!
