STUDY TIPS

As you proceed through your high school career, you will notice that the number of projects decreases. But at the same time they come with greater expectations and eventually lead into those dreaded senior year independent studies

With the substantial weighting on your final mark, independent studies should not be taken lightly. Teachers will not only mark you on your work, but also compare your project to your classmates and from years past. As a result, independent studies are one thing you don't want to mess around with.

Here are some helpful hints to make your independent studies easier:

  • try to pick an interesting topic (most teachers will let you chose your own topic as long as it is based on the course material)

  •
  • try to find resources for your particular topic before telling your teacher (there's no point of working extra hard to find stuff about a topic no one knows about - at least not in high school!)

  •
  • break down complex projects into smaller sections

  •
  • start early (you'll be tempted to leave it to the last second, but just remember that your quality of work will diminish as you panic!)
Good Luck!
