Walter Sergi Skinner is an ex-Marine turned assistand director of the FBI. He is head of The X-files department. At first, Skinner seemed like he was working against Mulder and Scully. He met with the Smoking Man and Krycek on several occasions, but it was only to protect his agents. Krycek is responsible for putting nanotechnology machines in Skinner's blood stream. Skinner never really believed in Mulder's theories about aliens until the seventh season finale "Requiem" when he saw Mulder being abducted. He stayed by Scully's side throughout her pregnancy, and vowed that he would find Mulder. He struck true to his word and with the help of John Doggett, they found Mulder, but they were too late to save him. Skinner was the one who saved Mulder when they found out that he was still alive. In the eighth season finale "Existence," Skinner shot and killed Krycek. He remained an alli to Mulder and Scully, and helped Mulder escape from prison when he was tried for murder.
