Kicking the habit can be very hard but always remember that you're quiting for the
sake of your friends and family as well. So, do it for them instead and slowly, while you stopped
smoking for a day, the level of carbon monoxide in your blood would have dropped to normal levels.
Imagine not smoking for a week, your lung functions would have improved already.
Basically throw away all your cigarettes and lighters that might remind you or trigger your smoking habits. If you can't bear to throw them away, try removing the cigarette odour smell by changing the curtains and beddings or burning some scented candles instead. If you are serious about quitting, you won't chicken out.
It is important to have a date in mind to remind you to plan it out. Don't choose a date when you know you will be busy, stressed or tired, you will be more tempted to give in to smoke. Remember, you don't have to completely kick the habit on that date, every small step you take towards your goal is the main point. Trust me, this is a lot better than saying “ I will quit tomorrow”. That day will never come.
Tell all your friends and family. They will definitely help you out, just remind them to slap the cigarette out of your hand if they ever see you with one. Besides, support is one of the many things that you need on this journey. Always remember that you are not alone. You can also remind yourself to quit smoking for them too.
Still feel the urge to pick up a cigarette? Busy your hands and mouth, chew on some gum or distract yourself with healthier food and exercise more. Since you have much more free time now, spend it with your family and friends who are there to support you. You will be happier and more active while quitting.
Don’t think that this is the end of the world just because you’re not use to it. Read some motivational quotes or inspirational stories written by ex-smokers. Studies have shown that those who quit while in a good mood have higher chances of kicking the habit.
With your head much clearer now after deciding to quit, you are basically a new changed person. So instead of doing your usual daily routine of smoking, replace it with a new habit. You can finally sign up for those gym membership or start spring-cleaning early this year. Try new things or pick up a hobby that will help distract and motivate you.
