Taking it out of the car is not
difficult, the only problem I had was
the water return line underneath. I eventually just cut the damn thing
since
I didn't have the work space to take it off with the turbo on the car. I
also knew that I had an extra from the DSM doner. |

Here's the old stock TD04. |

Here's the DSM turbo. |
|
I know these pics didn't quit
turn out like I had planned but you can definitely see a size
difference between the two. |
|
Simply remove all of the nuts from your manifold, it should come right off. If the old gasket looks shot, replace it. |
|
Here's a comparison between the
Colt Turbo and DSM manifold. |
|
And another... |
|
Didn't
realize it till I cleaned it up but I found a small crack on the
doner's
manifold. Got it dirt cheap so I can't really complain; just sealed it
up
with some high temp sealant. |
|
Cleaned
and ready to be installed. It was almost a direct bolt on... but the
DSM
had a little more mass on the left (drivers) side, had to grind it down
a
bit. |
|
Potential problem #1: Make sure
that you get the actuator with your turbo, the mounts are NOT
compatible... |
|
...and the arm doesn't reach
either. |
|
Potential
problem #2: ALL of the banjo fittings are larger on the DSM so you will
need
ALL of the feed and return lines from the DSM. I wasn't able to find a
whole
oil feed line so I used my old one and the stubby one it came with and
connected
them with a 1/4" copper line (not all 1/4" copper lines are
equal, check the I/D) with flare fittings. |

Turbo partially installed. Be
careful not to over-tighten the mounting studs for the manifold. I
accidentally broke one off. |
|
The DSM turbo doesn't have a
output line for the wastegate solenoid. I took the nipple off of the
DSM and mounted it on mine. |

Finally done and ready for some
fun! |
