WELCOME TO SMITHVALE

Rosemary and Peter Smith would love to share the Hounds who entered our lives and have given so much pleasure and companionship over many years.

We have been members of the Kennel Union of Southern Africa and showing dogs since 1964. Our first breed was Schipperkes where we enjoyed great success and were the first kennel to export a Schipperke from South Africa to England.

The first Whippet, a puppy bitch,
Skweeza of Smithvale "Penny" came into our lives in March 1981, and in true "potato chip" fashion, we were changed forever!!   Whippets have so enveloped us with their incredible companionship, devotion and beauty that we could not live without them.   Whippets are part of our 'family'.

We were delighted when our son, Andrew and his wife, Corinne, took an interest and started their own Whippet Kennel -
Corandy.  Corinne is the Whippet enthusiast and has started off with much success in the show ring.  A very big "thank you" to Corinne for creating this website for us. In 2002 they emigrated to New Zealand taking four Whippets with them.

Firstly, the dogs are  our companions and live in the house with us, so our breeding has been limited to when we are able to keep a pup from the litter to continue our line. It has been very exciting over the years to see our plans come to fruition and in the pedigrees you will be able to see the line breeding programme we followed.

I have always wanted a Greyhound, and in 1998 my dream came true when I imported a Greyhound puppy bitch,
Windspiel Northern Salino, in partnership with Deryl Barlow-Weilbach. 'Kate' lives with us and is a very special 'lady'. See our 'Greyhound' page.
