Bud Bears California Adventure -
WRLF 2005 Sacramento, Calif.

Coming in from the wilds of Idaho winter, the colorful California poppies were just the ticket to put everyone in a bright, festive mood!

The motel was absolutely fantastic with a big lake, waterfalls, ducks and Koi fish nearby.

There was plenty of interesting table decorations during the meals and lots of neat folks from all over to meet up & chat with.

("Excuse me, are you going to eat that?")

There were all kinds of interesting classes, like this one on how to make learning fun. If only those 4-H youth could see their leaders now! They sure came up with some, well, "interesting" costumes!

In one particular class, participants had to get a cup, balloon, and other items to move along a length of string. It was really fascinating to see the range of ideas they came up with just to accomplish their task!

Everyone had such a good time at the State's Night Out dinner. We went to the Fat City Bar & Grill. Now that's what I call good eatin'!

Friday night was the Glitz & Glitter Gala Academy Awards Celebration complete with red carpet entrance. There I met "Hattie," star of the California Computer Corps WRLF documentary, "After-Glow." The video follows Hattie, a lonely baseball cap, on a journey to learn more about 4-H. By movie end, he's transformed into "Hattie 2," a fancy new hat sporting the 4-H logo. Hattie and I were even interviewed by the 4-H paparazzi.

One of my favorite things about the forum was the number of senior leaders like Nellie Oehler of Oregon who's been a 4-H Leader for like 40 years. Nellie taught classes and participated in her state's skit. But she was just a youngster compared to Eleanor Garren of California who's been a 4-H Leader for 55 years. In all, there were 35 Leaders honored for 30 + years of 4-H service.

Of course some of the younger so called "adults" had to demonstrate their skill at the popular sport of nose spooning.

Idaho's own infamous auctioneer, Jim Wilson really got the place hopping as he proceeded to auction off some of the table decorations which were hand-made wooden vases.

During a "Talent Show," 4-H youth had an opportunity to share their cultural music & dances with the group.

This year's WRLF was so much fun, I just can't wait till WRLF 2006 in Utah. Hope you'll join us for all the fun!

See you in Utah, February 2006!!!!!!!!
