The Abaco Barb Youth Project presents:
Island Survivior - The Abaco Barb!
By Sydney B., age 12
Online article publication
Inspired to take a stand and take action to help preserve the Abaco Barb, Sydney penned a wonderful rally-the-troops kind of article entitled "Island Survivor - The Abaco Barb." It was published online at GirlsHorseClub.com. And rally the troops it!
"So what are you waiting for?," urged Sydney in her article. "Go out there and help save this breed! Dont just sit there and say, What can I do Im only a kid! There's plenty you CAN do!"
For those not familiar with the Girls Horse Club, it's an online organization offering online activities to educate, entertain, empower, and inspire young girls through their love of horses. Most of the club's editorial content comes directly from the girls, although sometimes adult guests like Terri Farley (author of the Phantom Stallion books and a wild horse activist), and Templeton Thompson (Nashville singer/songwriter who performs on horseback and is an worldwide ambassador for the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) are brought in to help mentor and motivate the girls further.
The creator of Girls Horse Club, Michelle Bushneff (along with a little prodding from Arwild's Milanne Rehor) was so impressed with Sydney's article that she contacted the Salmon Model Horse 4H Club to nominate Sydney for a ABYP certificate.
We couldn't have agreed more!
"I had recently posted a blog and LeadMare (the creator of the site) commented that the Abaco Barb Youth Project wanted to give me a special certificate," writes Sydney. "She encouraged me to contact you. I just wanted you to know that I'm blown away and it's way ok with me and my parents! Thank you for taking interest in me and my writing, it means a great deal to me and makes my parents very proud! I hope to help this breed as much as I can in the future with my "Helping Endangered Equines Club (HEEC)." Again, thank you so much for this special opportunity!"
Congratulations Sydney, and good going!
