October 2006 Newsletter #2

NEXT MEETING: Our next meeting will be on Friday, October 13th from 1 to 3p.m. in the Library basement. We will be making halters so everyone needs to bring one of the models they plan to show this year. Ill bring the ribbon and lacing.

Wow, its been a busy few weeks for the club, first with Achievement Night then our Breyer Day. It was great to see so many members and their families representing our club at Achievement Night. Hope everyone had a good time. Thanks again Kris for making our model bags.

AP ARTICLE: Prior to Breyer Day, Kelsey, Jami and Katy did a photo shoot at Kings for an article about the club for the Post Register, which came out on Thurs, Oct 5th. The article was picked up by the Associated Press wire service and on the last google internet check, it was visited over 20 times and appeared in papers throughout the Midwest, the Bahamas, France and Germany!

BREYER: Despite the nasty weather Breyer Day was a success. We had about 18 youth painting stablemates and over 25 entered in the coloring contest. The PAL mascot was a big hit and the girls seemed to have fun wearing it. Everyone worked well together to pull off this event, from making the window display to doing various tasks and helping clean-up afterward. I was very proud of how well everyone pitched in to help. I will have everyones Rocky Road model at the next meeting. And a big thanks to all the moms that came out to help and to Diane for bringing her neat Halloween Horses display.

OTHER TOPICS:

PARADE OF LIGHTS: We are going to try and have a float for the Parade of Lights Parade thats the Friday after Thanksgiving. Depending on whos in town we will plan for this. We will need some one who can hook up the lights and a generator or battery. We have a 20-foot flatbed trailer, but I dont know a thing about the lights. Heres a good job for any dads! I spoke to Celeste at A-Z and she said we could use the big mule for the main centerpiece.

BAKE SALE: Everyone was excited about doing the bake sale again. Its tentatively set for December 16th at Kings. I need to reconfirm this date. This is our biggest fundraiser and we have such great bakers in our group its interesting to see what they make.

ABACO BARB YOUTH PROJECT: Breyer sent us some Capella models to award for the Youth Project. Members will pick the top three youth they feel did a good job representing the horses, then Mimi will select from that list the winner of the Capella model.

DEMONSTRATIONS: Please encourage your daughter to get her demonstration done early this year. They need to be done before the model horse show that will be in late April or early May. They also need to do a book or magazine article report.

FLICKA MOVIE: The new Flicka movie will be out in October and we were discussing going as a group but with each member paying their own way.

WHITEWATER FUN SHOW: On October 21st, Whitewater will host another fun show and this time they will have two Halloween Costume classes, one for riders and the other for leadline. They have also added a canine costume class. This should be a really fun event so start thinking of a costume for yourself and your horse and dog.

INK CARTRIDGES & POP TOPS: If you know anyone who might let us put out a bin, please let me know. I will be dropping off the pop-tops in the near future so they can go to the Boise Ronald McDonald House.

BUD & CLOVERS ADVENTURES: Our club mascots, Bud & Clover are traveling with Jan Maxine and her 4-H kids to Columbus, OH where the kids will be competing in the National 4-H Horse Bowl contest. They will then go to Florida and on to the State Leaders Forum in Boise before coming back to Salmon.

Thats all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, please call me.
