May 2006 Newsletter

Our next meeting will be on May 17th at the Commissioners Annex from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Members need to bring their heritage jumps to that meeting. Please remind your daughters about this project. Aspen and Kelsey A selected Ireland, Jami -Native American, Mary - England, and Hannah -Canada or an Ocean theme. Also, any member that needs to do their book, video or movie report should get that done ASAP. At the meeting we will be working on some of the remaining check-off requirements and updating the record books.

On Saturday, May 20th from 10 to noon, we have been invited to go visit Tim Westfalls Kiger Mustangs at the Big Flats Ranch. The ranch is located about a mile past the fairgrounds on the left hand side of the road. If you pass the Big Flats General Store, youve gone too far. Parents are encouraged to join us for the visit. I will have my cell phone with me if you need to call for more directions. The number is 303-7409.

Our model show went well and everyone did a good job with their models. Its always interesting to see what each member comes up with for the classes, especially the creative scenes. It was also interesting to hear their comments when they had to judge and place Dianes and my models. We also had some good discussions about what rules we are going to follow. That sent me to make a call for help from our webmistress Juanita, who then went to some of the big-named experts in the model horse world. This is a topic that we will have to investigate farther since there are numerous rulebooks that we can use, the state 4-H book, the real breed association books or the North American Model Horse Association book. I recently went to Twin Falls with Diane when she was invited to help 4-h ers down there with their model horse projects. They now have three groups going there and possibly one in the Sun Valley area. The model horse project is growing and it would be nice if we were all following the same basic rules so we can get together and show with one another.

Our June and July meetings have been set for Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon at the Library basement. See date on schedule. Demonstrations need to be finished by the June meeting.

OTHER EVENTS:

On July 5 & 6, there will be a Young Pros Rodeo Bible-Camp at the fairgrounds. You dont need a horse to attend this fun, low-cost event. For more information, contact Evalyn Bennett.

There will be a general 4-H sleepover camp at the Central Idaho 4-H Camp in Ketchum, ID, July 11-14. Registration is accepted until June 1st. Call the Extension Office for more details.

I think thats all for right now. If you have any questions about the above events, please call me ASAP.

Dont forget to bring in any ink cartridges, cell phones or pop-tops for our service projects. We just received another check for $56 to send to the Abaco Barb horses. To date we have collected $87 for the horses. Hopefully we will soon have collection containers at various locations and a collection box for the fair.
