March 2006 Newsletter

Our next meeting will be on March 15th at the Commissioners Annex from 1:30 to 4 p.m. We will discuss the horse sale and make a trail obstacle for the model show. Anyone who has candy money or copies of the Just About Horses magazine need to bring them to this meeting. Dont forget that members need to do their demonstrations. If anyone needs help, please let me know.

The February meeting was really productive. Diane showed everyone how to mend a broken model leg, those who needed saddles for the show made them, and we made pop-top jugs for the horse sale. Diane also helped everyone take photos of their models. Members voted on officers: Hannah Bennett is our President, Katie Hamblin is the Vice President and Kelsey Austin is our Secretary. Congratulations to all three girls. Thank you to everyone who brought snacks and drinks. They were really appreciated.

Prior to the meeting, Evalyn, Hannah, Mary and myself attended the Horse Affairs Expo in Boise. It was a great experience and we all came back with new ideas to share. Our club mascot, Clover the 4-H horse, just returned from traveling to Kentucky with the Desperados 4-H Club in Boise. They went to compete in the national horse bowl contest and placed 8th in the nation. Clover got to go to the Kentucky Horse Park and Churchhill Downs. At Horse Affairs, he posed for photos with several of the clinicians and rodeo queens. Now hes headed to the Western Regional Leaders Forum in Salt Lake with Diane and myself. Clover and his companion, Bud the Bear are becoming so popular, they now have their own page on our club website. If you havent seen the site yet, please check it out. Our webmistress Juanita has done an awesome job!!!

Diane and I will have our model horse project displays at WRLF and Diane will be teaching a class on how to start a model club. We also received a request from a gal in Decorah, Iowa asking for information about starting a 4-H model club.

We are still collecting pop-tops, cell phones and ink cartridges. Last week we received a $31 check for the first batch of cartridges and it was forwarded to Mimi for the Abaco Horses.

4-H Promotion week and sign-up is set for the week of March 6th 9th. The 4-H Expo and general sign-up will be March 8th at 6 p.m. at the High School Commons. If your daughter wants to take any other 4-H projects, she needs to sign-up that night. I will have the club display set up also.

The Salmon Select Horse Sale is April 8th. We will not have a booth but will meet for a scavenger hunt, to put out pop-top jugs and sell candy bars as we go. I believe if a member wants to attend horse camp, they need to work at the pop booth that day also. Please check with the 4-H Office to sign-up. ALL MODEL HORSE CLUB MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND HORSE CAMP.

Our model show, which all members need to participate in to complete their project, will be April 29th. I handed out a copy of the classlist at the last meeting and everyone should be thinking about what they are going to do for the show. Dont hesitate to ask questions if you dont know whats going on and dont worry if youre not sure what to do. This is a learn by doing experience and everyone will do just fine!

I think thats all for right now. If you have any questions about the above events, please call me ASAP.

Dont forget to bring in any ink cartridges, cell phones or pop-tops for our service projects.
