June 2005 Newsletter

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 14th from 9 a.m. till noon at the library basement. If your daughter cant make it, please call me ASAP.  All demonstrations need to be done by this date! If not, they will do one on the spot. I will also be handing out fresh record books and any photos and hand-outs that I have. We will be using the time to copy the information that should be in your daughters books up until now, into fresh, clean books. I will also be signing off the check-off lists. I would like to have the books completely finished by the end of this meeting. They can be turned in that day or no later than July 30th. I know this seems early, but time will really start flying now that schools out and I know several members are in other projects. So the quicker we get ours done, the better. Please help your daughter with her story and with rewording what we did at the meetings. Some of the younger members might need help with the expense page too. We will also be checking out the club website.

As for July, it looks like most of the members will be out of town. If those still here want to do something, Im willing. I just need to know ASAP. Also if they want to do some type of booth for a few hours after the parade, we can do that, too. If any members want to get together and have a tack making session, that can be arranged. I know the younger girls would like to make Western saddles. July will be a busy month for every one so it looks like well just be doing an informal tack-making day.

As for the Abaco Barb Youth Project, its beginning to take hold. A gal in New Jersey, Allie, did her county speech/demonstration on the Abaco Horses and one of the judges was a writer for the Horse News over there. She did an article about the horses, Allies project and our project. I was also contacted about doing an article on Model horses for John Lyons Perfect Horse. So, the word is getting out.

On October 8th we will be hosting a Breyer Day at Kings. This will be during National 4-H Week so we need to start planning that event.

CAMPS **** I will be at the state horse camp in Alpine, WY July 12th 16th. This is a fun camp and everyone is eligible to go with or without their horses. Also the Salmon Horse Camp will be July 24th 27th. ALL MODEL HORSE CLUB MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND THE SALMON HORSE CAMP. If interested in this camp or the state camp, check early with the 4-H Office to get an application.

There is also a general 4-H camp on July 12-15 at the Boulder Mountain Youth Camp. Check with the 4-H Office for information on this event.

I will be at the Custer County Fair Aug. 1st 6th.  We should have a quick last-minute, fair prep meeting after that. For fair members are also encouraged to do a scene for our club display. The scenes will be judged. We have 5-gallon aquariums to cover the models so they arent disturbed. These will be provided. The scenes must fit in that space. We also have a free-standing case that houses our general club display and anything the girls want to add. Since our Capella model was introduced this year, Id like to have a special display on the club and our projects. So the girls need to be thinking up what they want to do and we will meet one evening before fair to set things up. Im not sure right now when we are scheduled to do that. We also need to do a club poster. I have a collection of photos and things from throughout the year that the girls can use to make the poster.

Also at the fair is the speech and demonstration contest. I highly encourage all club members to try this. Last year the club was well represented as all three members entered and did very well.

Most everyone is very close to being finished. Some of the things need to be done at home, like read a book or watch a video. Please encourage and help her to finish these requirements before the June meeting. If they are in the horse club, they can do the same demonstration for the model club and the horse club. They just have to do it at both club meetings. And, since they would have had so much practice, they could do it at the fair, too!

Please call me if you cant attend any of these events, my phone number is 756-3182.
