January 2008 Newsletter

NEXT MEETING: Our next meeting is Friday, January 11th from 10 am. to 4 pm. at the library. This will be an all day meeting for everyone except the cloverbuds. They can come around 12:30 and join us for lunch. Members of the Mountain View Model Club will be joining us. We will be using chemicals, acetone, sandpaper and spray paint in the morning session and the cloverbuds arent ready to do this yet. In the morning we will be sanding and priming models to repaint and will be doing photo shoot scenes. At 12:30 well break for pizza lunch and in the afternoon will work on making saddles and more photo shoots as well as planning for the up-coming Horseless Trail Clinic. For that, each member will do a trail type scene with their model. For insurance reasons, to participate in this meeting, members must have their signed membership sheets and $5 fee.

So, for this meeting, members need to bring: Membership fees and signed membership form, 1 classic or traditional model to repaint, models and props fro photo shoot and tack making supplies. Cloverbuds will come in the afternoon and need to bring their fees and membership stuff and the model they want to make tack for. We will be making Western saddles this time. I will have saddle patterns cut and ready for the cloverbuds, older members will be cutting their own patterns. For this meeting, members need to wear old clothes!!! Make sure your daughter eats breakfast before coming as, unless someone wants to supply something, there will be no snacks.

HORSELESS TRAIL CLINIC: We will be hosting a Horseless Trail Clinic for the general community on Thursday, January 24th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the library. For this event, members will be doing a Trail type scene with their models, which will be on display that night. This is a fun, hands-on clinic which offers insight on how a horse and rider can build a better partnership, how to build trail obstacles and how to maneuver various obstacles. The cost is only $5 per person so please pass the word around. ONLY MODEL CLUB MEMBERS AND THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILY WILL BE NO CHARGE. We will need club members to help with the clinic by taking fees, selling raffle tickets and demonstrating various things.

BAKE SALE UP-DATE: We did really well at the bake sale and made $111. The girls then bought a hoodie and small toys for Christmas is Sharing. We used the left over goodies for thank you trays for A-Z, Kings, the paper, the library and KRSA. At the December meeting we made holiday baskets and took them to Discovery Care Center. Those who participated in these events have fulfilled their fundraising and community service requirements.

MOUNTAIN VIEW MODEL CLUB - Mary has started a small club with her neighbors, Jessica and Melissa. They will be doing their own thing but will join us for the model show and other bigger events. They also helped with the bake sale. So, the model project is growing.

CLUB REQUIRED MODEL SHOW: I would like to hold this the first or second Saturday in May. Please check your schedules, as I need to arrange for a room and find a judge. I need to know this by Feb 1st. All members must participate to finish their project so its important we have a date everyone can participate in.

OTHER EVENTS -

PHOTO SHOW: The class list for our club photo show has been sent out to various model horse folks. We already have some entries and will judge them at the February meeting. Then the members of the Mountain View Model Club will judge it.

RECYCLING PROJECTS: We will have collection bins for ink cartridges at several places and we are still collecting pop-tops. Please bring anything you have to the next meeting.

Thats all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, please call me.

Since no one has volunteered to bring snacks or drinks for the meeting, I can no longer afford to do this so we wouldnt have any. Please have your daughter eat something before the meeting.

Also, dont forget all members need to read a book, magazine article or watch a movie for their check-off list and we need to get started on demonstrations. They will be due by the May meeting.
