January 2006 Newsletter

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a good holiday. The club received a thank you card form the library staff for our goodie basket and a holiday card from the folks at Breyer.

Things are moving along and Im trying to line-out the schedule for the next few months. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, January 18th at the Commissioners Annex 1:30 to 4 p.m. Members need to start on their demonstrations. They all need to be done by June. This is so members have time to do their other 4-H projects. Members will need to bring their models to this meeting so we can start deciding which models they will use for the model show and what tack and props they might need. We will also discuss model showing and what needs to be done before the show. We will also be working on a fun theme project where members will make either a jump or trail obstacle with items from the country their ancestors came from. So if they dont know, can you please tell them before the next meeting. Then, Ill explain what they will be doing at that time.

On Monday, February 20th, we will have a model horse day camp at the Library. This date is tentative right now. If things change, I will call you. Those who dont have saddles will make them that day. This will be the last chance they have to make saddles before the model show. Or, they might be able to purchase one from Mary. We will also be doing scenes for a photo shoot and hopefully Diane will be able to come down and show us how to do the photos.

Diane and I are going to the Western Regional Leaders Forum in Salt Lake the first week of March. She will be teaching a class on How to Start a Model Horse 4-H Club and we will have our club displays during the Share Fair.

4-H Promotion week and sign-up is set for the week of March 6th 9th. More details as they come out.

The Salmon Select Horse Sale is April 8th. We will not have a booth but will meet for a scavenger hunt, to put out pop-top jugs and sell candy bars as we go. I believe if a member wants to attend horse camp, they need to work at the pop booth that day also. ALL MODEL HORSE CLUB MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND HORSE CAMP. Ill have more details on this later.

Our model show, which all members need to participate in to complete their project, will be either April 22nd or 29th, depending on when I can get a judge. If you have a conflict with either day, please let me know by January 31st. I need to arrange for a room, judges, awards, etc We need to go with these dates since other events start in May and things start getting too busy. The show is the same as a show at the fair and is open to other 4-Hers in the model horse project.
