December 2007 Newsletter

NEXT MEETING: Our next meeting is Friday, December 7th from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library. We will be making holiday baskets for Discovery Care Center. If you have any unwanted baskets or holiday ornaments we can use, it would be appreciated. After the meeting we will meet at the Center and put out the baskets. Please return the sign-up sheets and checks at this meeting. Checks should be made out to 4-H Leaders Council All members must be signed up by December 15th . The fee is $5 for the year. If your daughter is doing other projects, you will need to pay for them at the March sign-up.

We still havent elected officers so if anyone is interested, be thinking about it for this meeting. Also, dont forget all members need to read a book, magazine article or watch a movie for their check-off list and we need to get started on demonstrations. They will be due by the May meeting.

Our bake sale will be on December 15th at Kings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone needs to bring some kind of baked goods; cookies, brownies and candies always go well, (please mark them if they have nuts in them). For the creative bakers, small bread loafs or other kinds of goodies work well. This is a big fundraiser for the club and helps pay for lunch during the clubs all-day activity meetings, the model show lunch and Breyer Day models. We also use goodies from the bake sale to make our thank-you baskets for those who have supported the club throughout the year so we need lots of treats. I will be there by 10:30 a.m. to set up. If your daughter has a club tee shirt, please have her wear it.

JANUARY MEETING: This all-day meeting will be on January 11th, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch. What Id like to do is have the older club members meet in the morning to start working on a repaint model and do some photo scenes, then in the afternoon, around 1 p.m. the 1st year members and cloverbuds will come and we will make saddles. Then the morning group can make saddles or work on what ever they want. We will also be working on Trail scenes for our horseless trail clinic. For repainting, members need to bring a big, not stablemate, sized model. They should have one of their older ones that is scratched up but not broken. We cant use the kind with hair manes and tails. We will be sanding and priming the models. For this meeting, members need to wear old clothes!!!

HORSELESS TRAIL CLINIC: We will be hosting a Horseless Trail Clinic on Thursday, January 24th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the library. For this event, members will be doing a Trail type scene with their models, which will be on display that night. This is a fun, hands-on clinic which offers insight on how a horse and rider can build a better partnership, how to build trail obstacles and how to maneuver various obstacles. The cost is only $5 per person so please pass the word around. ONLY MODEL CLUB MEMBERS AND THEIR IMMIDATE FAMILY WILL BE NO CHARGE.

We will need club members to help with the clinic by taking fees, selling raffle tickets and demonstrating various things.

CLUB TEE-SHIRTS: If any one would like to order a club tee- shirt, please let me know ASAP.

PHOTO SHOW: The class list our club photo show has been sent out to various model horse folks so we should have some fun entries for this event which we will judge at the February meeting.

RECYCLING PROJECTS: We will have collection bins for ink cartridges at several places and we are still collecting pop-tops. Please bring anything you have to the next meeting.

SNACKS: We need members to sign up to bring drinks and snacks to the meetings. We would need enough for at least 12 people. Please let me know before the meeting if you can do this so we can start making a schedule. If each member brought either a snack or drinks to one meeting, it would be very helpful, otherwise we will probably no longer have refreshments.

That's all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, please call me. 756-3182
