December 2006 Newsletter

MEETING DATE CHANGE:
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, December 9th from 10 to noon in the Library basement not Friday, December 8th.
We will be making holiday baskets for the Discovery Care Center as a community service project. If you have any small holiday decorations, knickknacks or ornaments that you would be willing donate for the baskets, it would be appreciated. I will have the baskets. We will deliver the baskets right after the meeting so if everyone can plan to stop at the Center on the way home for about ten minutes. It would be helpful.

We will also have a small holiday celebration and Nicole volunteered to bring goodies and hot chocolate. Anyone else who wants to bring treats is encouraged to do so. We also have to have all the photos for the photo show labeled so they can be sent off.

PARADE OF LIGHTS:
The parade went well and our float, despite a few lights not working, was awesome. The girls did a great job coming up with the idea and putting it together. I was really proud of them. Id also like to thank Rick and Evalyn for getting our tree to stand up and Lloyd Jones and Tom Chaffin for providing us with a power converter and batteries to power the lights. For our first parade, I think the float was awesome, but wait till next year!

ABACO BARB YOUTH PROJECT NOMINEES:
At the November meeting, members selected the three top nominees for the Youth Project. They were Amanda B, Grace R and Danielle K. Interestingly each member did an independent vote and two of the three were unanimous. I sent the list to Mimi in the Bahamas and she made the final selection. Amanda B. will receive a Capella model donated by Breyer and the two runner-ups will receive stablemates.

BAKE SALE:
Our bake sale is set for December 16th at Kings from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. We will be out in front again. This is our biggest fundraiser and we have such great bakers in our group that its interesting to see what they bring. Cookies and brownies always go well as well as small loaves of bread and dog and horse goodie bags. During the sale we will also be collecting pop-tops and ink cartridges as well as making thank-you goodie baskets for several of our supporters. After the sale, the members will pick a card from the Christmas is Sharing Tree and then select a gift to give.

NEXT MEETING:
Our next meeting will on January 26th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be an all day activity meeting with lunch. We will be making tack, taking photos and hopefully Dallas Dupree will be our guest speaker to teach the girls about Native American horse costumes. They chose this topic as their theme for their fair scene. Everyone needs to bring their models, tack and photo props to this meeting so we can see what they will be using for the model show. The meeting is later in the month because Diane and I will be at the Western Regional Leaders Forum in Phoenix, AZ.

OTHER TOPICS:

RECORD BOOKS:
We started our record books at the last meeting and I have them in the girls files so we can add to them as we go. The updated checklists are also finishedso we can start working on them.

DEMONSTRATIONS:
Please encourage your daughter to get her demonstration done early this year. They need to be done before the model horse show that will be in late April or early May. They also need to do a book, movie or magazine article report. We will be discussing the Flicka movie so that will count for the movie requirement.

INK CARTRIDGES & POP TOPS:
If you know anyone who might let us put out a bin, please let me know.

TANKS FOR FAIR:
Our club membership is growing and we need more tanks for our fair displays. If you know anyone willing to donate an old 5-gallon tank, please let me know.

LIVE MODEL SHOW IN MISSOULA:
There will be an open model horse show in Missoula on June 2, 2007. This will not be a club event, but everyone is encouraged to go. For more information, swing by their website. If anyone wants to go, we can have a special pre-show meeting to help you get stuff ready.

Thats all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, please call me.

If anyone can bring refreshments to the meetings, it would be appreciated. We would need enough for at least 12 people.
