The Abaco Barb Youth Project presents:
The Abaco Barb: The Heart of Abaco
By Becky O., age 12
from Massachusetts
4-H Essay Presentation
Congratulations to Becky O. whose recent 4-H Essay Presentation not only garnered her a shiny new Rosette but also moved one of the judges so much she actually donated some money to the Barbs!
"I think the best part," writes Becky, "was the opportunity to fly out to the Abacos with my parents and actually meet Arkwild Director & horse caretaker, Mimi Rehor. She was really so great, and the horses were so cool. We got very close and was able to touch them as well! It was the most magical day of my life."
"I have to admit, my favorite horse was Bella #2. She was so sweet, and just basked in the center of attention. I spent at least half an hour pulling burrs out of her mane alone. I was shocked when I further learned that their numbers had dwindled down now to just a mere 8. I guess Extinction really is forever."
After returning home from the trip, Becky adapted her presentation into an article which she then submitted to the Massachusetts Horse magazine, in hopes of garnering even more attention and help. It was published in the June/July 2008 issue.
Becky belongs to the Woodville Trailbusters 4-H club where she rides English on a POA named Winnie. And yes, she does own a Breyer Capella model, given to her by an aunt. To read Becky's amazing 4-H Essay Presentation, click here.
