August 2007 Newsletter #1

NEXT MEETING: Our next meeting will be on Friday, August 10th from 10 to noon at the library.
RECORD BOOKS WILL BE DUE AT THE END OF THE MEETING.
Last meeting I sent home the old book and a new record book as well as a paper with the dates of what we did as a club, so your daughter should have all the dates she needs to complete her book. Enclosed is a copy of the record book judges score sheet so you have an idea of what is expected. We will be working on the photo pages and the page with the photo of the project model. I also have folders and page covers. Please double check for spelling and any math. Members should have their story finished before the meeting. I have the check off lists and will hand them out at the meeting. A PARENT MUST SIGN THE COVER OF THE RECORD BOOK.

Some members like the computer, others dont. Its your choice but remember, there is NO SPELL CHECK in the record book program so please have your daughter double check all spelling as this is an important part of the book. Judges are more critical of this when the computer is used instead of being handwritten.

At this meeting we will also write letters to the Kentucky Horse Park asking them to include information about the Abaco Barbs on their website for the Horses of the World listing.

CANDY BARS:
We still need to sell candy bars. I had to cancel the July 19th walk around sale because of medical appointments so we need to set another date. The candy sales are important because during the Breyer Fun Day, each member helping with the event receives a special Breyer Day model.

RECYCLING PROJECTS:
We will have collection bins at the Lemhi Fair for ink cartridges and pop-tops.

OTHER TOPICS:
Family Night At the Lemhi County Fair. The fair will be here before you know it; fair week is August 18th 26th. On Wednesday evening, from 5 to 9 p.m. there will be special family-oriented events and the alcohol sales will be confined to the grandstands and select areas only. This is a very special project being organized by Katie Hoffman and something that is much needed. To help support her efforts, Kris Hamblins Master Gardener Club and our club will be having carnival-style booths and will be located next to each other. Kris is doing a "Pick-the-duck" type booth and we will have a "Frog toss" one. This is a club fundraising project so members are encouraged to come by and help for a while.

FAIR:
Hopefully I will have a fair schedule at the next meeting. We need to set a time and day to set up our displays. All projects need to be set up for judging by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21st. Usually we have all our projects and displays set up the evening before when we decorate. The fair books should be out soon and there is a schedule in there, also. Members are also encouraged to participate in the speech and demonstration contest. Already some of the club members have signed up.

LEMHI COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE WEBSITE: http://extension.ag.uidaho.edu/lemhi/ or Phone: 756-2824.

Thats all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, please call me.

If anyone can bring refreshments to the meetings, it would be appreciated. We would need enough for at least 12 people. Please let me know before the meeting if you can do this.

AGAIN, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT RECORD BOOKS OR FAIR, PLEASE CALL ME.
