August 2005 Newsletter

Wow, summer sure has flown by. Fair is almost here, luckily our record books are already being judge so that is out of the way. I will have them back in time for fair and will take them there myself. Hannah and Mary have volunteered to make a poster of club activities for the general 4-H display. Thanks girls! On Monday about 5 p.m., we will set up the club display. Each member is encouraged to do a scene which will be judged. If you want to do more then one, thats great but only one will be judged. We have some 5-gallon fish tanks to cover the scenes so they cant be to long or wide. We also have the display case for smaller items. Hopefully our club display will be in the same spot as last year. We will also be setting out the jugs to collect pop-tops. All 4-H projects and record books form any club needs to be at the fairgrounds between 8 and 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. we need to work in the pop booth. This is a requirement of all clubs and all members should plan to attend for some part of the time. We should all be in our tee shirts at this time also.

The demonstration contest will be on Thursday at 4 p.m. and the speech contest on Saturday at 3 p.m. I highly encourage all club members to try this. I think the younger members would be great at the impromptu speeches. For that, each contestant draws a topic then has one minute to think about it before giving their speech. We had lots of youth last year and they all did well. I know the older girls will do great in either event and hope everyone tries.

The 4-H exhibits and books can be picked upon Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Not before! Or they can be picked up on Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. Open class entries can be picked up on Sunday. I will be there Sunday to take down our club display.

As you know, the Model Club runs all year long so our next meeting has been set for September 21st from 2 to 4 at the Commissioners Office. This meeting will be a year-end party and planning meeting for the Breyer Day. Its the third Wednesday of the month in which the schools let out early. I tried for the Library basement, but it was reserved. If Wednesdays wouldnt work, we can try another date at the library. Please let me know. Dont forget it will be getting dark early during the winter. We already have a bunch of stuff planned. Diane Fisher will be doing a photo clinic and bring down her cameras, lights and props so we can get some really good photos to start photo showing with. Hopefully we will have speakers to talk about driving and harness horses and a mini-hands-on packing clinic.

On October 8th we will be hosting a Breyer Day at Kings. This will be during National 4-H Week so we need to start planning that event. We will also be recruiting new members then.

Please call me if you cant attend any of these events, my phone number is 756-3182.
