April 2008 Newsletter

NEXT MEETING: Our next meeting is Friday, April 11th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the library. This is an important meeting, as we will be discussing the model show, picking classes and going over what to do at the show. Members need to bring the models they are showing unless they know which classes they are showing in already. We will be entering models for the show during this meeting. Basic entries must be made before the meeting is over. The class list is included with this newsletter.

CLUB REQUIRED MODEL SHOW: The club show will be on Saturday, April 26th, the weekend after the horse sale. This is an all day event and all members must participate to finish their project. The location of the show has been changed back to the library. There wasnt enough room to hold it at the Brooklyn building. Exhibitors may start come at 8:30 a.m. to set up and get ready. The show will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. and we should be done by 3 p.m. If an exhibitor isnt ready they will just have to forfeit the class. So they need to plan a head. We will be discussing what needs to be done at the next meeting. Exhibitors MUST have description cards for each class except repaint and halter. Cards should be done beforehand at home.

Previously the members said they wanted Subway sandwiches for lunch. The club will supply this but I will need someone to pick them up. Please let me know by the meeting if you can do this. We can also use drinks and a snack of some kind. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR DAUGHTER EATS BREAKFAST OR BRINGS SOMETHING WITH HER!

Participating in the show is a project requirement, even if the member only shows in at least one class. We tried to make the classes challenging enough for everyone. The main thing to remember is attention to details and creativity. This show is a club/team effort!

Since this is a show, members must be dressed appropriately in a nice shirt, with no writing on the front, and nice jeans.

DEMONSTRATIONS: Everyone who was at the March meeting has met their demonstration requirement. We did impromptu demonstrations and they were awesome. I was really impressed. Doing a prepared demonstration is hard enough but when you only have 10 minutes to demonstrate a topic you just received, its really hard. All the girls, from cloverbuds up did an awesome job!! If your daughter wasnt at the March meeting, she will need to do her demonstration at the April meeting of the day of the show.

FUNDRAISERS: Some of the members have not yet participated in a fund raising event. We can do a raffle at the horse sale to cover this.

OTHER EVENTS: Idaho Horse of the Year applications are now available for 2008 and can be found on the club website or the Idaho 4-H website. They must be postmarked by April 20th, no exceptions.

LEMHI COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE WEBSITE: http://extension.ag.uidaho.edu/lemhi/ or Phone: 756-2824

SNACKS FOR APRIL MEETING: We need someone to bring snacks and or drinks for the meeting. Please call me if you can do this.

Thats all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, please call me.

Also, dont forget all members need to read a book, magazine article, or watch a movie for their check-off list.

Exhibitors are to dress appropriately with a nice shirt and neat jeans. Hats and boots not required.

Description cards required for all classes except repaint and Cloverbud halter.

This show counts as the Salmon Model Horse 4-H Clubs fair show.

*Favorite model: This is a fun class and you can enter your favorite model. It doesnt have to be a good model or even a Breyer type. Be prepared to tell WHY it is your favorite. Was it your first one? A gift from a special friend? Your favorite breed? Looks and condition do not count in this class, just how much YOU love the model.

Ribbons will be given for 1st to 6th place in each class. A Judges Choice award will be given in all divisions. A High Point Horse and Reserve award will be given in each division. Points go to the horse, not the exhibitor since some exhibitors will have several horses and others only one or two.

Be creative and have fun!!!!!!
